The FIFA (CM) community is pissed indeed because of the lack of changes in recent years, but compare it to UFC's career mode and it's lightyears ahead.

Exactly. Hey, they did give it a few changes in recent games, contract negotiations, short-term and long-term objectives, etc. Obviously even more things can be done but yeah, light years ahead.

I want to make my own universe mode, but I don't know how. I need help. How do I determine the rankings? How many fights should each card be? Can someone help me?

I have a very complicated formula that determines rankings. A simplified version is just to give fighters a specific amount for beating certain fighters (top 10 fighters count for more), a specific amount for losing to a fighter and points for how you lose or win.

Let me know if you want to see the complicated version.

For me all ppv and ESPN cars are 10 fights and ESPN plus fights are 8 fights.

My universe spreadsheet is way more sophisticated. This is pretty much a dice roll. I have a googlesheet in universe that can do the following:
-Track events and outcomes
-Update rankings after event results automatically (rankings done on point system based off of wins, losses finishes and streaks*)
-create random injuries requiring cards to be changed
-Pictures of each fighter on the rankings (pictures move with fighter)
-Optionally use a tournament results to start initial rankings.

The ONLY thing I can't do is track streaks its killing me. It is almost a universe killer to not be able to track streaks.

I will probably be banned because this is my 4th account. But if anyone has any ideas for how to count streaks please share and I would be willing to share my spreadsheet with the community.

Side bar....why do you guys ban people permanently. It just makes those ban have no reason to not make another account and act even more reckless.

You could make levels to bans. I just made this account because I wanted to get that zip file for universe. You should allow maybe the ability to do that but no forum posting or the ability to IM but no forum posting. And those things should be limited for a specific period of time. But anyway...its your site...do whatever. I will just use another device to make a new email account from a new IP address its not that difficult when I need to.

Very cool, perhaps you can share your universe googlesheet with the community? And maybe someone can figure out how to track streaks for you. Btw, the only item here that's a dice roll in mine is the injuries, which I like a lot as a way to introduce an element of chance. I also like that I can clearly see streaks going across each page with this spreadsheet.

Sorry I'm a bit late, but yeah this is how you do it. You can have AI do some and just play the ones you want. Did you have any surprising outcomes in this one? How has the spreadsheet been working out for you so far?

Ok, I know I said using WMMA as a Universe mode database and simulator is complicated but ******* is it fun once you get the handle of it. Here are some of the positives:

- Stat tracking: I can now pull up data from my entire universe (which runs almost 10 yrs). Want to find out who has the most KOs in the history of my Universe? I can pull that data down in an instant.

- Drug tests: Just yesterday, Jon Jones failed a PED test and is suspended for a year (true to life). Now I have to strip Jones of the belt and cant book him in fights for a year. This is something I never had to deal with before WMMA. Some people may hate stuff like this because it means you cant use a fighter for a long time but I find it true to life.

Its also a little bit different than just a randomizer. Jones failed the test in WMMA not because of a random dice roll. He failed because his stats in WMMA (thanks to Macgowan's database) make him more likely to fail than other fighters. That doesnt mean that only people who have a history of drug suspensions will get busted. Yushin Okami just popped for recreational drugs in my Universe last month.

- Fight refusals: In the past, I would just make a fight and that would be it. Using WMMA, fighters will refuse fights for financial reasons and popularity reasons. It makes it a challenge at times to book fights. I tried to book Cro Cop v. Tuavasi and Cro Cop turned down the fight because Tua isnt well known enough.

- Injuries: I love scrambling to find a short term replacement for fighters due to injuries.

Dont get me wrong....its complicated as hell to run the universe through WMMA but I love it. Its so good that if UFC 4 gives us a basic universe or no universe at all, I'll be OK. I wont be happy but ill be able to adjust.

I think we need some clarification about whether people would prefer what we’re calling a ‘Universe Mode’ which is something more like what you see in recent WWE games, or if what people want is a general manager/promoter type mode.

I see a lot of people combining the two, and I’m not convinced it would work the way they think it would.

Universe Mode, from my understanding, just means there’s a virtual universe that’s running, and you have the power to edit parts of it, and also play out parts if you choose to. If you’ve ever played a WWE universe mode then you’ll know that the game automatically creates shows/matches and deals with pretty much everything itself. You have the power to go in and change individual things if you choose to, and you can remove characters from shows or award them a championship or whatever else you want, but it’s by no means this mode where you go in and put together events and hire people onto your roster, etc...

What most people seem to be asking for is a general manager/promoter mode rather than a universe mode. The manager mode would be more similar to how the WMMA game is, where you run an organisation, book shows, hire fighters, and see how things play out. I’m sure that we could have a feature added to allow us to choose to play matches instead of just simulating, but my initial point still stands.

Maybe I’m just unaware of some other game that has a universe mode that is like what people are describing it as, and either way, I guess it’s not really a big deal and maybe I just have an issue with some terminology. But as far as I’m aware and from what I’ve seen, a ‘universe mode’ is a very specific thing where a universe already exists and is running, you essentially just play in that universe and can choose to make certain changes if you really want to. A manager mode seems to be what people really want.

I think it’s helpful to use proper terminology here so that there is no confusion. I’m a fan both ideas. I’d love a universe or a manager mode, I’d be happy with either. The reason that people use "universe" is because WWE is the only combat sports game that has a mode that is similar to what we want. With the exception of recruiting and signing new fighters, WWE2k has alot of what UFC fans are asking for.

- In WWE, you can add, remove and edit as many shows as you like.
- You can book the cards.
- You have to deal with injuries (even though the injury system is ****).
- There is a rankings system.
- You can add CAFs to your current universe.

I'll be honest with you guys. If we do get a universe/GM/promoter mode in UFC 4, it wont be like WMMA. That kinda depth comes from years of programming and is easier in a text sim than a AAA game. I'm also not 100% convinced that the devs think this mode is what everyone (casual and sim offline) players would want versus a story mode or an improved career mode.

My guess (AND ITS JUST A GUESS), is that the team will try to use current systems within the game to give us a basic/bare bones universe/GM mode. Take the sim engine from tournament and career mode, the fight card menu from event mode, CAF generated fighters from career mode and add things like injuries.

I'm keeping my expectations low so that I wont be disappointed.
