I'm thinking that because sometimes you get the old "parry" animation on the lunge depending on the strike your opponent throws. Wouldn't the lunge have to come after the strike input for the game to know to use that animation?

I’m not saying you can’t do it, I’m saying it doesn’t work very well at all.

Yeah I bait people with a shot or two and then lunge back immediately. It generally has to be predictive to get that whoosh sound that drains a ton of their stamina.

As for people who bait you to sway. Sway or duck their first punch or leg kick them after their first strike. Just keep landing and then sway when they try to change strategies to bring them right back into the strategy. People with a plan to counter let themselves fall way behind before changing it up if you dont take the bait.

Use feints to throw off their rhythm and change up your strikes/ rhythm!

Do feints cost same stamina as the strikes?

I don't remember if they cost less, or the same as if the strike had landed cleanly. If the strike is somehow defended, it will spend some extra stamina. If you feint, you do't have to pay this extra.

The back lean works best when you’re already in kicking range and do a quick flick followed by a straight to catch them coming forward. Be leery of kicks though.

Ah! Maybe this is where I’m going wrong. I tend to use head movement and lunges after I’ve blocked one or two strikes. I’ll try using it preemptively.
