We need more effective ways to do damage on the ground

Right now the ground/stand up is imbalanced. Most of the fight is based on damage, however ground strikes are significantly easier to block than standup, leading to an unfair lean in judging for standup fighters.

Let's look at positions where you can land significant strikes.

    Top Guard:

You can mainly land small damage to the body or head, it is very hard to rock. Opponent's can spam the head grab and transition. They have many options to getup from this position AND you can be head trapped. It's a very bad position for damage unless you are playing someone who has no idea what they are doing.

    Half Guard:

This is one of the better positions, because you can land the elbow at decent speed, but the massive GA for blocked strikes means you are likely to have someone getup, neglecting all the hard work you did to get them on the ground.

Top Mount: Right now transitioning to back control is still what most people do, since there is no back control threats.

Back Mount: This position should be very dangerous, but it is one of the safest unless you play against very high level ranked opponents. For the most part you can hold block, deny down and try to sweep your opponent. The sweep should be eliminated, it makes no sense how easy it is to get with so little threat.

Last but not least, side control/crucifix/side saddle, these positions are good for damage, but with how slow elbows come out it's usually pretty easy to get at least one of the three major transitions. Unless you have a huge grappling advantage such as GSP vs Wonderboy its hard to land good strikes here.

How about adding cancel strikes for ground action? That would make the mount mor dangerous cause now its all about how many strikes you blocked before you can transition succesfully.

They should change the entry after knockdowns to half guard because it is much more dangerous than full guard in this game.

And you are absolutely right. Strikes on the ground and first of all the ability to strike need buffs.

Ground strikes are perfect where they are. I was talking to one of the best grapplers in the game yesterday about this and he agreed.

You CAN finish people on the ground, but the real boon of ground strikes is the massive damage it does to your block and the bleed through of elbows on the ground.

After a two round beating on the ground, even if all shots are blocked, the guy in the third round is only going to have a guard capable of blocking two shots before breaking entirely.

And for the realism guys: obviously most fights do not end from straight GNP. Only when someone is outclassed or rocked which is how it is in the game right now too. Both in game and real life, the ground is for wearing guys down over the course of the fight. It's fine the way it is.

I agree. GnP is really about cumulative damage, look at Edson v Lee, most Khabib fights, Coleman, ect ect, they're not KOing people the second they get mount, they're just beating the tar out of them.

I don't have much an issue with the GnP. You totally can finish people from mount and especially half guard, but its not common, however as you've pointed out, the advantage really lies in how much it wears on the opponent, GnP strikes do a very nice amount of long term damage.

I love doing the Romero v Machida KO. After wearing the opponents block down, Get a clinch trip with Romero, posture up in half and drop hellbows until they ded.

The finish the fight ground positions you can obtain from knockdowns are awesome. If you guys can figure out how to obtain these in reverse that would be great... from dominant top position damage to the FTF positions.

Being able to go knee on belly FTF position once you've got someone's head flashing from.half guard would actually be cool as hell, add a reversal/sweep the bottom player can counter it with good timing and your good to go (I'm sure its not that simple but I like the idea)
