Re: Connor vs Khabib the update after

UFC needs to captalize on the hype from 229 and make 230 work .

Heard Nate vs Dustin is back for the main event . Not sure tho .

Derrick Lewis should get Stipe for #1 contender fight

I really wanna see Tony vs Khabib

It’d be interesting to see Khabib against Tony’s forward pressure and constant scrambles.

Tony will be doing Dark Soul rolls to escape the ankle pick

I wouldn't say he can't beat Khabib, but he for sure can't beat Khabib's wrestling. Lots of Conor fans were saying he was injured in the Mendes fight (which was true) thats why he was getting out wrestled, but we saw the same Conor again in this fight with Khabib. Once he's on the ground he has zero offense...just a few elbows here and there and trying to get up. If he could keep the fight standing he could have a good chance at beating him still imo, but as we saw that night, that's really hard to do. Khabib showed that he's the real champ in that fight.

Tony would be interesting vs Khabib cuz Tony actually has offense off his back unlike Conor and will give Khabib more to deal with. Thats the fight I really wanna see next for Khabib tbh. UFC will probably try to ride the wave and make this rematch vs Conor though.

But Connor did well against khabib's very first take down attempt ...held on unto his torso . I was impressed . Need to watch the fight again tho .

In my country everybody is more interested in the brawl after the fight than the fight itself .

Either way khabib should get a sizeable buff .

Even though we can't really use him the way he fights in real life due to a lack of mechanics .

He did well stopping the initial shot, but that's the thing with Khabib and any high lvl wrestlers for the matter. They will chain attempts together and chain wrestle. So it's more a matter of can you defend the 2nd, 3rd, 4th attempt, ect. That first td attempt by Khabib and the defending by Conor was a perfect example of how the chain wrestling works. Thats why they need to get chain wrestling in UFC 4 somehow.

It's not old man grumble. I've watched MMA since the days of Shamrock, Tank etc. Connor and the legion of casuals hes brought in have pumped money in but also ruined the sport imo. Theres a local casino here that shows the fights on a movie theater sized screen. For 15 bucks. My buddies and I go to most ppv events.

Tonnes of great cards over the years and its half or more empty in there. Connor fights and suddenly all the " MMA fans" show up. You aren't an MMA fan. You're a clown who barely follows or knows anything of the sport. The UFC clearly made a conscious decision some time ago to sell their soul for money. Greed pure and simple. Lesnar cheats, leaves for 2 years then comes back to a Title shot. Jon Jones same garbage.

It's been embarrassing for a while and quite frankly is killing my enthusiasm for the sport currently. At least the UFC. Dana is a piece of garbage.

By the way anyone interested in great analysis should check out the youtube channel BJJScout

He called out Conor’s striking weaknesses perfectly. He also talked about what Khabib needed to do on the feet to win and he waa 100% right. Conor had no answer for someone that wouldnt attack him or retreat constantly in a straight line. Khabib didnt do that until the 3rd round after Conor was tired. Khabib circles away from Conor’s left was the key to victory and really shows that Conor’s striking arsenal is still too limited at the higher levels. His left is god tier and he has a good jab, teep, read uppercut. But that’s it.

Didn't watch the vid, but I noticed those things about Conor too from just watching fights. He's like 80-90% a counter striker and the rest is range management, so he has his best success against fighters that come forward wreckless or don't circle away from his left. But if you don't come at him and don't give him anything to counter, that works best. Then when he strikes from range you can counter wrestle or strike. That's why a fighter like say Woodley would be very dangerous for Conor cuz he doesn't lead and he counters also. Then on top of that he can wrestle and has big ko power.

There are many, many reasons why Woodley would be dangerous for Conor. The main one being he’s a far better fighter in every single aspect haha strange comparison that.

Yeah completely agree more, it’s crazy how the sport has changed since 1993..... I think the tournament bracket system is the best way to make matches.... no one can avoid the next opponent .... at lest for championships...then make separate fights as exhibition fights....
With that said... Conor has horrible ground game.....and no stamina...please relate that to the game.....no more excuses!

Here’s an article from Jack Slack about the fight

Highlight’s Khabib’s footwork, jab, head movement, and of course grappling. Oh and McGregor’s cheating.

I mean I wouldn't really say he has a horrible ground game, but its obviously not good enough for him to stop high lvl grapplers/wrestlers when they get him down. One thing that always annoyed me was that he had a sweep from guard though. When have we ever seen Conor sweeping anyone from guard like he's Demian Maia or something. And don't nobody say Diaz cuz that was NOT from the guard...more like feet on hips or something.

Conors ground work was actually quite impressive early on, he showed pretty great TDD and worked well to get out of mount multiple times and retain guard. I think he will give a lot of guys who aren't Khabib's level a hard time keeping him down.

His stamina is a tough one, most guys who go through a Khabib beating look terrible in rd 3, but Conor goes from 100 to 0 , not 100 to 50. His left straight looked bad in rd 3.
