Yeah, there is no argument there. Ortega was not rocked whatsoever. You can see his eyes the whole time.

Still, does not impact his blocking rating. I agree he is underpowered in several key areas though.

His feet a squared up when he takes the shot, pops straight back up and even has the where with all to avoid an uppercut whilst he’s getting up. Not rocked at all.

Also my argument for his blocking in particular being too low, as you’ve seen in the other thread is based on his unique blocking technique.

Frankly his stats are a bit of joke tbh as I’ve pointed out but I’ll wait until he beats Max, guess you’ll have to buff him when he’s got the belt round his waist.

I respect your opinion. Just don’t agree with it. I actually remember him being stunned also towards the end of round 1 but its been a year since I watched that fight and did his initial stats. On the flip side, I’ve seen a few people actually compliment Ortega’s stats specifically. Sucks that you aren’t happy with them but we can’t please everyone.

That’s cool. I respect yours also and just as you can’t please everyone, you also can’t get everyone’s stats spot on but I’m sure you agree if he beats Max then his stats will need a serious buff?

P.S your memory serves you correct but that was an eye poke at the end of the first round with Guida.

Depends on the fight. I don’t want to promise anything simply if he wins a fight. As always we will take the fight (and past fights) in consideration when we update fighters.

Given their vast differences in stats. Even ‘simply winning’ would surely be enough for a significant boost!? He needs a boost regardless of winning let alone if he gets any manner of victory.

Let’s say it’s a 5 round fight and he gets rocked and almost stopped in a few rounds but he wins by throwing up a Hail Mary sub in round 5. Should I buff his stats in most areas even though he looked bad throughout?

I’m not willing to guarantee a buff to anyone just because they won. It always comes down to performance in that fight plus previous fights.

You see that’s the problem, you are only seeing Ortegas skill as a ‘Hail Mary sub’ you are forgetting the fact he was the first fighter to ever stop Edgar on his feet, you aren’t seeing the relentless pace he fights at, you aren’t seeing he is made of granite, you aren’t seeing how much his striking has evolved.

To just put his skills down to ‘Hail Mary Sub’ is ridiculous. Just because his sub game is A+++ does not mean he is just a submission fighter like he’s currently rated.

Let’s go down your hypothetical route though, so if Ortega went 5 rounds (again), got rocked a few times and then subbed Holloway. You wouldn’t think that his endurance (a measly 89) would deserve a boost, or his chin(90) would deserve a boost if he lasted 5 rounds with Max (currently same chin as Aldo and we all saw how those fights went), striking stamina (87!?!?) to keep up with Max (93).

The bottom line is if Ortega beats one of the best FW of all time (after already beating another in Edgar) to remain undefeated at 15-0 he would need to have ‘champion’ level stats. Currently even if you boosted every single stat +2 he would still be underrated.

                  Huh?

I described a pretend fight. I didn’t “describe his skills”. I gave you a hypothetical where he gets dominated for 4 1/2 rounds and he throws up a sub and wins in the final round.

Anyway, I gave you my answer. We may look at the fight in a few weeks and think he should be buffed everywhere. We may look at the fight and say he needs to be buffed only a few places. He may lose the fight and we buff him everywhere. We’ve done all things when it comes to updating fighters.

It’s clear you are a fan of Ortega and that’s cool but I’m not going to guarantee any changes before a fight.

Not shocked that you would agree with a broad argument over a nuanced one. That’s par for the course with you.

Let’s all hope that Ortega looks great against Max so that we can give him all the buffs you two want.

I'm a waaaaay bigger fan of Max than Ortega. Way bigger. I spent 8 years with a Hawaiian/Polynesian woman, and have a deep appreciation for their culture.

I'm just being objective and Cal is talking facts.

I was going to wait until he fought Max to start beating the drum for Ortega again but considering Max is currently out indefinitely I can’t wait another few months to get Ortega rated accurately.

Ortega currently isn’t a ‘top’ fighter in game as his style is to apply intense forward pressure and strike with zero fear of being taken down (infact that’s WHY he fights like he does) but his stats currently don’t allow you to do that in game.

His striking stamina and endurance are far too low, as stated above Ortega has gone 5 rounds twice and to the third round in another 7 of his 14 fights and he has got finishes in the third round in 5 of those 7 fights. Not only that he is always pushing the pace and on the front foot. He has not once even looked tired at any point, in any fight. People can’t deal with his endurance and end up getting finished.

                          Striking stamina 87 to 89
                          Endurance 89 to 92
                          Marathoner level 3

Due to his fighting style he frequently takes big shots but he’s never been rocked and only been dropped once in his UFC career and that was because his feet got crossed up against Guida and he popped straight back up. The guy has been in there with Cub, Edgar and Moicano (who recently KO’d Cub) he has the same chin rating as Edgar (who always shows incredible recovery and rightly has 99 heart but he does get dropped a lot.)

Look at him take a clean head kick like it’s nothing

                          Chin strength 90 to 92

His blocking is also on he low side. He has a unique blocking style where he puts his hands to his temples and uses his elbows to deflect strikes.

                          Blocking 88 to 91

Ortega is an absolute monster, he’s 14-0 and we still don’t know just how good he is.

Im sorry, but Cal is on point with his "broad arguement".

Don’t care who you are a bigger fan of. An argument that Ortega should be buffed no matter how he performs and how he wins is nonsensical. My point is that I would rather see how he performs before deciding if and where he gets buffed. Another point is I’m not surprised that you would take the broad “buff him everywhere” approach instead of the more targeted let’s wait and see approach given that’s how you approach a lot of your suggestions regarding the game.

Anyway, that’s besides the point. Moving on.

But how he performs is kind of irrelevant in this case given how he’s vastly underrated based on his fights so far.

Even if he gets KO’d in the first punch of the fight it wouldn’t change the fact he’s still underrated.

Actually it isn’t. You want an endurance buff right? Well let’s say he starts gassing badly at the start of the 2nd. Kinda hard to make an argument that his endurance needs a big buff based off his current rating and his performance in that fight.

With that said, it’s a waste of time to argue hypotheticals. I have three fight nights and a good amount of fighters to watch and potentially rerate before we even get to the Toronto card. I’ll address that when we get there. I’m more focused on changes to people who fought last night than I am to fighters who fight a month from now.
