Great game, but I have frustrations

I'm not a high level player. I play every once in a while, mostly while hyped up because of some upcoming real life fights or during the aftermaths. I have good timing in the game, know the strike inputs, how to deny transitions, and have been doing and watching combat sports my whole life, so I also have a decent understanding of "how to fight", and with this game being as relatively realistic as it is, that means I have a decent understanding of "how to play".

But I'm getting kind of frustrated with this game. I feel a bit bad about it lol, as it really is a GREAT fighting game. But something is just off. First of all, I simply can't play ranked. I feel like I'm being matched with these killers all the time, way above my level. They know exactly when to shoot, exactly when to throw a jumping knee, even though I'm simultaneously punching them or even having them rocked. So I play play now, but that's way too easy, where guys are just flailing around throwing ungrounded six-hook combos. I rarely get a matchup, where I actually feel like we're on the same level.

Grappling frustrates me as well. Not the ground game specifically. Well, I hate it, because you have to fake transitions like a moron, and it just feel undynamic (same for the clinch), but I've accepted that fact. But the takedowns. Wow! Good players can just get me to the ground whenever they feel like, it feels. It feels undeniable lol. I really don't know what to do. It really kills it for me. Like, I meet a good player, and I'm really excited about it, because I'm keeping him a kicking range, teeping him, jabbing him, keeping him at bay. And suddenly, he shoots, and even though I feel like my TDD timing is on point, he gets me down. Really weird...

My last frustration, might just be my own lack of defensive striking skills, but I'm really tired of forward pressure fighters, who just have the stamina, blocking, combo and block breaking down. Who can just walk forward, rip combos and break my block eventually. It's soooooo tiresome to face these players. I remember hating the parrying system in the last UFC game, but there should be some parrying I feel like. It shouldn't give me a window to just throw an unblock able three-four strike combo, but it should give me some room to breath and get out of the way.

Yeah, just wanted to vent, and see if anyone feels like me, or if I am just being a crybaby here. Just annoys me that I so rarely have competitive fights. I either dominate or get dominated (last one exclusively by grapplers or forward pressure, combo-whiffing players).

However, this is by far the greatest MMA game ever. Actually, I rank it above Fight Night Champions even as fighting game, due to the higher level of dimensions in creating an MMA game versus a boxing game, and due to these developers constant free updates and ongoing attention to detail. Big up to the devs, that's for sure!!!

You make some common complaints. Most of these complaints disappear at the higher levels of play. Almost everything has a direct counter to it and CAN be improved. So long as you have the desire to put time in to improve it.

That being said, I would have to see gameplay of yours or fight you myself to give you any tips that would be worthwhile to you at this point.

Understand everything besides the parrying, which was cancer when it was here and i hope it never gets introduced again.

unfortunately they have to market this game to casuals as well so ufc games will probably never move away from the combo spamfest type of play

which is really sad because fight night champion had awesome stamina and defensive options, but it seems they want this game to be rock em sock em robots

Faking like an epileptic moron does not disappear at higher levels, it intensifies.

Parries would be okay if they worked like they actually do in real life- without the freeze and free hit.

They should be a simple deflection or catch, without a free hit

They should be mobile, not freeze you in place

Parries are effective at stopping overagression but, along with the clinch, were poorly represented in the EA UFC games. I mean there isn't even open guard clinch.

Not what I'm saying. I'm saying the player's ability to deal with it (among other things) and stop it from becoming an absolute gamebreaking issue disappears. I've seen so many low level players think it's as easy as faking feet on hips in guard over and over. Meanwhile, I'm transitioning while they shimmy shake their legs.

Don’t get it twisted FN was spamming too. Maybe even worse because you could win exclusively just throwing body hooks all fight

Exactly. FNC's online mode is a cesspool of spam and objectively broken tactics with no hard counters other than "be so much better than them it doesn't matter what they do". It had some really good ideas for core mechanics like the stamina system and having to actively guard your cuts, but they were all overshadowed by the complete absence of developer support and unbalanced gameplay. Which, by the way, looks absolutely nothing like real boxing.

Don't take my word for it. You can go online and play right NOW. Take those rose-tinted glasses off and really experience what FNC is online.

Is the OP playing on a TV? If so get a gaming monitor, I don't know how people have any success on their TV's. Even in game mode they are just too laggy to block transitions reliably. I'm starting to really notice the guys that have ps4 pros.

Its not that disappear, guys just adapt to counter... in a perfect world those strategies wouldn’t just be effective in any kind of level because of how poor they are...

Hey you know if you slip the uppercut the hook is slow right? Your opinions are detrimental to the community. Your obviously not very skilled. Hence all your rage induced comments. You just want free wins. Sorry. Not happening. Beer pong is a high luck low skilled game. Go play that. Someone with your cognitive stature should find that very rewarding. You fail to even watch your losses always blaming a glitch or spam every time. Honestly low level players should have zero say on the game

Man I fail your pain ...

But lemme tell you something mean Gene ...

First things first you are probably getting matched up against a couple of guys you should be familiar with but ...bear with me ...I'm still learning this your ability to look at what they are throwing at you and adapt is your key to survival . Watch high level guys on YouTube like Ed Parker for striking , Romero XVII for grappling , martial mind for adapting , Ricky Jay to understand that's it's just a game , Dmart for sub grappling from the bottom .

If you notice they stand and plant and then come after you with the pressure ...If it's a jab , jab ,jab to break your block ...and pause try the straight ...it will often beat your opponent's double jab .

At a low level pressure fighters get away with a lot of **** but at a high level very few of them try it and succeed .

You also gotta know your fighters very well what's their most effective strike work it into your attack or counters .....go get a good grasp of boxing try women's bantam weight it's a lot more fluid .

Feel free to ask Retracted Monkey and 1212 head kick for advice . Also try to record your fights and see how and why you lost .
