How anyone can defend a guy throwing 150 strikes in 1 round is beyond me.

Re: Why can people play like terminators
Here is the problem:
I dont think EA wants to encourage players to be "Mayweathers" . They are fine with you being able to use movement and head movement to set up counter strikes and other ways to punish your opponent. They dont want a game where people are being 100% defensive just so they can drain someone's stamina.
The way others look at it is a way to stop the aggression is to make them pay for it. If you knock him down or cause health events, he wont be physically able to push that pace because his perm stamina will drop so low. Thats not even mentioning the fact that if he remains that aggressive while you are landing counters the likelihood of him getting stopped is higher.
From the stats, it seems that you have mastered defense but the game only rewards damage and punishment and you werent willing to counter enough to punish him.
Managing your output is a major part of this sport. It was why MMA fighters train so damn hard. Ignoring this aspect of the game is inexcusable.Last edited by LoveThisLife; 01-17-2019, 02:55 PM.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
What you guys are not understanding about “missed strikes”
The end of round will show stats like 24/100 which looks like a 24% hit accuracy but that’s not the case. The game does not differentiate between actual wiffs and hitting the block.
If I throw 10 strikes and hit your block on 9 of them the game stats will show 1/10 for strikes landed. When in actuality I am hitting you , because your block is slowly draining.
Actual wiffs will drain the opponents very quickly.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
I think stopping the high pressure style you see in ranked comes down to a lot of things. You have many tools at your disposal to deal with them. The push to create space, a double leg to counter forward moving strikes. People also underestimate the usefulness of using the clinch to just move someone around the octagon
One of the best ways to stifle pressure is to time your shots appropriately when your opponent comes toward you because that's when they are most vulnerable. You have to constantly touch your opponent to control the octagon, jabbing their block will slow them down and lower their block. You also have to stop moving straight backwards, or if you do make sure you only move backward far enough to dodge strikes/regain your block before getting back into your fighter's optimal striking range. Fight in the pocket, and shift back and forth very slightly to escape their strikes and then put the pressure back on them.
Stun someone with a clean straight and you will have time to circle out and get space back. Time a jab-body straight perfectly that dodges a strike while landing the body straight and you will see them move backwards. This game is honestly very versatile and there is always going to be more than one way to skin a cat.
If you are trying to replicate this "terminator" style and don't understand why you are getting rocked so frequently, it's because you are probably moving forward too much instead of laterally. You should move laterally and mirror your opponent so they don't regain octagon control. Force your opponent to move forward to strike so that their vulnerability spikes and not yours.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
If all you are doing as a defense is holding your hands in front of your face .. you deserve to lose.
I am sure your arms/face will give out long before my padded knuckles.
Duck, sway, slip , use head movement, move your feet. Circle out then circle then go the other direction. mix it up.
Something I do , if someone is putting the pressure on:
Using the same buttons that you would use for the teep kick. Use it when they are moving toward you . The game will automatically detect the distance , and instead of throwing a teep it will throw a powerful knee as they are moving into you. Once the knee lands , circle out the other direction so your back is further away from the cageLast edited by jigsaw736; 01-17-2019, 04:25 PM.Comment

Push Lunge Poke circle. Easy. Theyll be locked in stun frames long enough to create distance. Low levels back up too much. Also dont be anxious to respond with defense as your giving your opponents a read on you.Comment

I you are throwing strikes that to not cause damage (I used whichever defensive tactic available to cause this be it movement or blocking)... your stamina needs to drain. You should need to be considerate offensively.
Saying that this is fair is the same thing that people used to say about the punch-flick (UFC Undisputed Series). People would argue the same way about how it was legit and fair. It was not... it was complete BS and so is this aspect of the game.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
Something just clicked with me that jigsaw pointed out. You want to talk about realism? What's more realistic: me getting super tired by wailing on your guard/head or you hitting the canvas because all you're doing is blocking with MMA gloves?
A trained MMA fighter can hit the heavy bag indefinitely. The stamina cost comes do to being on edge and constantly having to react and outmanuever/outthink your opponent. Imagine that your opponent is doing none of that. They're just backing up and allowing you to hit them in their arms with no recourse.
The block is already unrealistic seeing as blocking with 4oz gloves is good for maybe 2 shots unless you're Robbie Lawler and actively rolling with punches. If you had 100% realistic gameplay mechanics, most of you would trash this game immediately. You would fail to use any defensive mechanics and have your guard smashed through by these so-called terminators and get KOed even faster due to realistic health systems. Because no matter what you do to the game, the most common tactic is going to be to throw punches often. You will have even less margin for error if you get what you think you want. If you aren't capable of reacting with the cushy barrier you have now, what makes you think you'll be able to react when that barrier is gone?
I can't believe I have to keep restating this, but it is in fact a game. Most people want to throw more punches than they do in real life. It's more fun and competitive to keep the strike count high. We don't want to sit and stare at each other for half the fight. We need a higher block health to give us a larger margin of error. Because of the human element, an entirely realistic game system will end fights ridiculously quick and leave most players unfulfilled. Especially the ones who think they want this stuff. The main culprits are frustrated because they keep losing, so they think changing the game will help them. Then you have guys like (insert three letter name here). They're middling players who have a decent grasp on the systems, but never really get to the next level. This leaves them unfulfilled and wanting changes based on that sentiment.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
It does cause damage: you are blocking punches/kicks, haymakers , knees , elbows with your arms . Punch your self in your forearm, tell me how it feels.
Now put your arm in front of your face , and hit it with the other. Not only will your arm hurt , but the impact of the hit is going to push your arms into your face.
You act as if you are blocking with something that is not your own body. Blocking is basically saying I’d rather you hit this place instead , because although it will hurt .. it will hurt less
Joe rogan says it all the time , even when you block a high kick it still gets through . Please explain to me the logic. Do you honestly think if cro cop threw a high kick and you “blocked it” that it wouldn’t hurt you? There is a good chance you blocking that kick , just resulted in a broken arm.
Unless I am wiffing... hitting your arms will not tire out a trained fighter.
So yes ... it is fair.Last edited by jigsaw736; 01-17-2019, 05:02 PM.Comment
