Re: Why can people play like terminators
The knee-elbow issue is legit, but I think most people agree, even the devs, so that shouldn't cause an uproar to say.
Literally just had a fight after reaching division five. I was Yoel against Israel, and I was countering him with all sorts of single punches the first two rounds. Took him down like five times as well (couldn't keep him there though). Then he started to stick like glue from round three. I tried to counter it by back swaying the most predictable elbows and landing check hooks, throwing 2-5's when he lead with knees, but he was just too good at it, so in the end, all the knees and elbows had drained my stamina, put my health all the way down, and he could just pick me apart from there. Literally everything he landed caused a rock. He was good at it, but it's still some BS!
Second, it's simply awful from a gameplay balance perspective as well. The counter for one is the set-up for the other. Ducking the elbow makes you eat the knee, back leaning increases body damage exponentially. There is no movement that avoids knees except backing up and if you do that, they can stick on you. Throwing elbows if you block low or just running you down with knees. AND they can also mix it up. Making it not only a skill for the lowest common denominator, but a massive advantage for an advanced player.
There are options for this, but none are hard counters. To my knowledge, it is the only exploit that doesn't have a specific and reliable counter.Last edited by RetractedMonkey; 01-11-2019, 07:06 PM.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
This is yet another thing I am in favor of changing. First of all, the knee-elbow combo (at least the way it exists in game) is not a real combo. Try and throw it the way it's presented in game IRL. You can't. You'll be off balanced after putting the knee down. You have to reset in order to get and leverage on the elbow. The double elbow combo is another thing that needs ta go.

Perfect, stationary vertical leap with flawless technique. But yeah, not a big problem. Just a minor exploit that can catch you off guard, especially inexperienced players who will just stick to the rocked opponent and unload.
I deter from the subject...Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
So question for those NOT in favor of changes to the "Terminator" play style:
If the block was also nerfed either via even easier block breaks, or a universal "bleed through" damage for basically every strike that hits block, would you be in support of making the "Terminator" approach much more taxing on stamina?
I would be in full favor of block nerfs (blocking is not safe in MMA) in general, and especially if it meant also nerfing phone booth fighting. There are fighters out there who have a blitzing style IRL, and generally they either win in the first round or lose later in the fight. OR they adapt and slow their act down in the second. And I'm not talking about pressure fighters like the Diaz bros or Colby Covington, thats different. Pressure is different than the all out assault we see in UFC 3. Thats all I want to achieve here, to get that aspect of MMA properly represented. So even if there are ways to counter these "Terminators" (and there definitely is) thats not what I personally am pushing for. I want play styles to be more accurately represented, and with a nerfed block that "Terminator" style would still very much be dangerous in the first and some of the second round.Comment

There are a bunch of vulnerability changes that would make a huge difference:
1. when you lean away from round-house head kicks, sometimes it grazes your shoulder and doesn't hit you, but sometimes it does massive extra damage instead. Too inconsistent.
2. When you lean the wrong way and expose your body to a body kick, it does extra damage. Why should it do more damage than an unblocked kick unless you are moving towards it? if anything it would likely glance of slightly because your body is angled away at that point but for balance sake it should just be the same as an unblocked body kick.
3. Leaning back away from a body knee does extra damage. WTF? your body is leaning away at a 45 degree angle. It should barely graze you if at all.
4. it seems like walking forward into a roundhouse kick to the head does extra damage. Its a round strike, if you are walking straight forward it should only deliver max unblocked damage.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
Do not believe this nonsense people... you have a legit complaint and can make a difference.
I can already predict the likes to Monkey's post (alhobert, Romero etc) but it doesn't matter. There have always been people that praise the status quo because it works FOR THEM.
For example, in THQ's undisputed series. People used to complain about "punch-flicking (a ground strike input entered almost simultaneously as a transition denial) and say that it was not a balanced approach to the ground game.
"High-level" Undisputed players would lay out all types of BS arguments as to why punch-flicking is fine as it is and how the rest of the people needed to "git good".
Well the constant complains got to THQ and they did improve the punch-flick exploit as the series progressed(although it never was completely eliminated)
The same thing will happen here. Keep raising your voices. FIFA players are complaining about the lack of "realism" too. It will never match 1:1 with real life... But it can be drastically improved.
I like your FIFA analogy as I pray UFC never gets to be that bad.
I often used to advocate back then that if you go HAM on your opponent by the ending of the 3rd round you should gas . But it's not going to happen. It's rewarding because the game allows it .

Re: Why can people play like terminators
If you are interested ...see how FCB deals with Aaron's pressure .
Great fight man ... absolutely great fight . Just unlucky .
Which reminds me your suggestion on there being a seperate bar for health and stamina on the other thread ...call Mr crazy but can't they be in the same bar just with two different colors ?
