Is there a possibility of them adding more funds for a certain section of game development (e.g. Art Resources)? I mean, additional to the already set budget. I'm talking in principle, not if they will actually do that.

Dont know but I guess it works like any other budget. With that said, if you move money to one area...it leaves another. So you hire a dedicated art team and maybe that money means less mo cap for the next game.

I thought it works this way: EA has all the money and they allocate a certain amount for each project, in this case - not a lot of money, relatively speaking, for EA UFC. Going from there, I wondered if they could choose to allocate more money for that project, thus increasing the budget. So does it actually work that way? I'm not sure how art teams work and what "dedicated" means in this instance.

Ok understand that I'm basing this off of my years working with budgets in the entertainment industry and the little bit I know about how video game budgets work so I could be wrong but here goes:

So EA determines how much money they are going to devote to each game's budget. A game like Madden or FIFA will likely have the biggest EA sports game budgets because they are the highest selling and highest profile EA sports games. On the flip side, a game like Rory McIlroy Golf likely has a smaller budget. My guess is EA UFC likely falls somewhere in the middle.

So to answer your question, yes EA could allot more money (a bigger budget) for UFC 4 but they would have to believe that the things that come from the increased budget will lead to bigger sales. The last thing they want to do is spend more money making the game and sales drop. The sales for UFC 3 I've heard were solid but that doesnt mean that EA wants to spend more to make the game.

Regarding art teams, they create all the art for the game. That means fighters, stadiums, crowd, ref, menus, cutscenes in career mode etc. EA UFC shares there team with other EA games. That makes sense from a financial perspective because a full art team isnt needed year round for EA UFC since its on a 20-24 mos cycle. They need to create new art mostly during the development/production phase of the game but you dont need a full team to create 3-4 fighters every month. Especially when games like FIFA and NHL are on one year cycles and may need the additional help.

So EA UFC shares its team with other games.

            I love a big roster.

But if I had to choose, I'd rather have a Universe Mode where the mode generates new fighters that replaces ageing fighters.

If that happens then my current need for a huge roster to fill out my current universe becomes less of an issue if the mode is constantly cycling in fresh faces so matchups don't get stale.

So it's pretty much how I thought it was. Thanks for the reply. Well I do think allocating more money (which would allow for many more features, modes, fighters and an altogether better franchise) would be greatly beneficial for everyone involved (captain obvious much) but obviously I can't know for certain whether that will truly translate into the numbers they'd be looking for. I do hope they decide to invest more in it though. You can only do so much with such a limited budget. They know it of course, but I guess it's good enough for them in business terms.

Regardless of a bigger budget, I think it still comes down to where they choose to allocate their resources. I hope they choose to use them to build a large roster and put in a universe mode. I think it could be a big seller as it would add a huge new mode to the game where many of the previous ones were lacking in modes. It would also greatly add to replayability and longevity of the game in my opinion. But what do I know, I’m just a fan of the game on the outside looking in. But I certainly hope this is the way they go, it seems to be one of the bigger requests I’ve seen for the game.

The bigger the budget, the more things there can be at the same time - roster, career, universe, various online modes, etc.

I’m not disagreeing with that, obviously bigger budget means more stuff they can do. I’m saying if the budget isn’t big enough to do everything we want, I hope they choose to focus on roster and universe mode.
