To be fair, though, from what we've seen of the Middleweight roster for example, that one looks way more fleshed out than it is in UFC 3. Would you say they've put a lot more work into that one compared to the others? We have almost all top 15 there, no? Just missing Vettori, Heinisch and Shoeface?

Re: EA UFC 4 Confirmed Roster
100%. I've known the roster for months so I've had some time to accept it but the number of new fighters is ridiculously low and I had low expectations coming into it.
The counter argument is that the audience they are trying to doesnt care about Calvin Kattar or Alexsander Rakic and that they care more about bear costumes and viking helmets. This is EA giving this audience what they want.Comment

Re: EA UFC 4 Confirmed Roster
What audience? Without the hardcores this game is dead in the water. Do they really feel that people are going to be playing this game in two years like they did UFC 3, because they can equip bear masks and other goofy stuff? It really feels like they have given up on this series because they weren’t able to get ultimate team to catch on. Is that the impression you are getting aholbert?
If you buy the game next week and never play the game....thats still $60 of revenue.
Only the consumer cares about replayability and hardcore consumers have shown that even if the last game lacks replayability....they will still buy the new game.
UT had nothing to do with it. Absolutely nothing. If it did, they wouldve just reworked UT again and tried to find another way to monetize it.Comment

Re: EA UFC 4 Confirmed Roster
Disappointing but not unexpected. It’s pretty clear from what I’ve seen their target audience is not people on this site or any other forum dedicated to the game. Wish they would have met the dedicated fans in the middle, most would be able to get over all the unpopular decisions if there was more for them as well. I feel like they’re catering to a crowd that’s unlikely to buy the game anyways while giving their dedicated fans very little to nothing.
If this game outsells EA UFC 3, EA will look at this approach as a win. So we will see.Comment

Now look at LW. No new additions, right? Because all of the top 5 contenders in LW were in the game already.Comment

Re: EA UFC 4 Confirmed Roster
This is the big bet they are making. Its really interesting to me because they have presented data to me that justifies many of their decisions. I still disagree with some of the ways they have interpreted the data but I understand it.

Re: EA UFC 4 Confirmed Roster
This is just a assumption from me but you notice that the only people who were added where people who are really close to a title shot. Cannonier and Hermmanson have been within 1 win of a title shot in the past year or 2.

Re: EA UFC 4 Confirmed Roster
See this is where OSers show they dont understand how video games companies work. EA (and most video game companies) dont care if you are playing the game 2 yrs from now. They care that you buy the game.

Re: EA UFC 4 Confirmed Roster
This is fair. I guess I was conditioned by the UFC 3 development/patching cycle where they added prospects / up-and-comers in patches rather than at launch (although this wasn't always true, Diakiese comes to mind, same with Johnny Walker for 4). As well, though, I like the addition of guys like Krylov, and it makes me wonder why they wouldn't put Rakic/Gillespie/Vettori/Neal/Luque (all speculation ofc) because I feel they're in the same ballpark. Oh well, here's to hoping that the patches make up for the lacking roster at launch:/.
Also remember these fighters were completed months ago and Walker was a Corey Anderson win away from being top 5.
I wish it was like 2. We got guys like Diakese and Frankie Saenz who were solid fighters but not contenders.Comment

Re: EA UFC 4 Confirmed Roster
Really what I was hoping for too. They’ve shown they can add a ton of fighters if they choose to make it a priority. I could have gotten over a lot of the other stuff if it had a great roster. Running a “universe” is 90% of what I do on the game that’s huge for me. But alas, clearly not at the top of their list.Comment

Re: EA UFC 4 Confirmed Roster
FYI, Krylov was in 2. They just used his 2 model and add him back in the game.

Re: EA UFC 4 Confirmed Roster
We shall see. I still see it continuing to be a niche game and the target audience they’re going for still not caring. But I don’t have their data. As I’ve seen you say all over this forum, if people don’t like it, they need to put their money where their mouth is. That’s the only way to try to get the change you want.

Re: EA UFC 4 Confirmed Roster
One of the biggest complaints about 1 was the small roster so with 2 they worked to fix that. One thing that they found frustrating was the turnover when it comes to the UFC roster. Whether it was cuts or free agency, a ton of fighters left between 2 and 3 and I think it made EA more risk averse.
For example, creating a roster fighter isnt easy. It takes months of works to finalize many of them. So when you make someone like Zack Makovsky and he's gone before UFC 3, its seen as a waste of effort. You spent weeks/months creating a fighter that most people didnt use and who you had to remove before the next game.
Since then EA has been pretty targeted. If you are a top 5 fighter, you are gonna get added (EA doesnt want a situation where someone has the belt and isnt in the game). If you are an undeniable prospect like a Zabit or Stylebender, you are in. But if you are a exciting fighter that is 5 and 3.....you become a maybe add.
Take Lando Vanatta.
Lando actually did mocap during UFC 3. EA could likely make a super accurate version of Lando but he has been .500 or below his entire career and I think EA doesnt want to use the resources and then he gets cut.
Finally, EA UFC doesnt have a dedicated art team. They share those resources with other games. So if Fifa needs people to create faces or new stadiums and UFC needs art help at the same time....Fifa is gonna win.Comment
