Re: Should I buy the game now?
You could say that the critiques have slowed down in general because at this point people don't expect them to change for UFC 4. Regardless, when people do complain I definitely think they are among the most common complaints alongside the lack of GNP elbows and oppressive clinch mechanics (lack of deny). I believe the devs have taken note that people had problems with them.
Zyaf already beat me to it, but I was also gonna say that a lot of the competitive players are gonna focus on the gameplay because it's ultimately the important part. Changing short colors is not gonna make the competitive experience any different and if anything I have enjoyed not having to waste time waiting for people to decide what color their pants are. Yet, I'm all for it in other kinds of games because they can express personality whereas in an MMA game (especially in the Reebok era) they exist to differentiate the fighters. Funnily enough CAFs were meant to promote player expression but we all know how that turned out.
Imagine reading a thread which has either included or referenced numerous GCers complaining about stuff yet still claiming it hasn't happened with such confidence.
They are nothing but damage control for EA, if they mattered EA ufc 4 wouldn’t have been released in the crap state it still is in now.
Hope that helps.Comment

Re: Should I buy the game now?
I'll let actual GCers (Alberto) address your comment about not making a positive difference. From the top of my head Martial complained about UFC 3's lack of fatigued strike animations and they got added soon afterwards.¯\_(ツ)_/¯Comment

Re: Should I buy the game now?
If the GCs weren’t incredibly vocal about some areas this game would’ve been very different upon release.
At the end of the day it’s still EA/ the Devs game and we can only offer feedback. They ultimately decide what direction to go.Comment

Re: Should I buy the game now?
Without GCs, you would be playing a game with a simple grappling system (legacy grappling would be gone) and ranked would be a CAF only mode. Those are just two of the many things GCs have done in the 5 yrs I worked with that team.
This isnt even a pat on a back for me because I didnt have **** to do with either of those changes but to call those guys "damage control" is a mischaracterization and flat out ****ed up.Comment

Re: Should I buy the game now?
Nothing shocking about it - all a GCer is is a glorified spokesman who gets channel pumps from EA/YouTube if they tow the line. Of course they won’t speak out about any serious problems because EA will take there free game copies, early access to ufc 5 and YouTube channel pump away.
(Imagine selling out your integrity for essentially nothing)
There are currently 11 GCs I believe out of the 11, less than half have active Youtube Channels (Martial, Dmart, Imuhboxer, Game and Romero).
Dmart hasnt posted on his in 6 mos. So its kind of hard to argue that his channel is active.
Martial has a very active Youtube page that not only has EA UFC vids but also random MMA vids, videos about the new ESBC boxing game and FNC vids. Romero and Game fall in a similar boat.
Whats funny to me is all it takes is looking at their pages for 1 minute to realize how bad your post is. 95% of the vids they post have nothing to do with them promoting the game or getting GC footage. Their vids are no different that that millions of other game videos that gamers make.
No one is "selling their integrity" to get a free game or a little access. Thats ****ing laughable. I dont understand why its so hard for people to understand this. GCs have direct access to devs and the community manager. THEY DONT NEED TO POST COMPLAINTS ON YOUTUBE OR REDDIT OR OS!
The GC discord is littered with gameplay complaints or suggestions from GCs. Its litterally the large majority of posts there. We dont need to post complaints in public to get clout or "respect" from strangers on the internet. We can go directly to the source.
Does that mean that everything we complain about gets fixed....hell no. But our complaints are much more likely to get fixed if we go the direct route than complaining publicaly.
Anyway, yall are going to believe what you believe.Comment

LOL.....what a ****ing thankless job.

But..
It's insane that after all this time I'm still shocked by how ridiculously out of touch these developers are.Comment

Re: Should I buy the game now?
....they arent. I dont know how many times people have to come here to explain it.
That doesnt mean that they dont care at all about those kinds of fans. They add stuff all them time for them. Patches are typically focused on things to make them happy (whether its gameplay changes or roster additions).
With that said, every indication I've seen is that UFC 4 is outselling UFC 3 and EA and the UFC were happy enough with the results that they just reupped for more games. Which is EA's (and any game company) primary goal. Its to sell more games.Comment

Its "out of touch" if you believe that people who would take the time to discuss the game on OS or Reddit or Youtube or any other social media site are the primary audience they are trying to reach with this game......

Re: Should I buy the game now?
Anyway, if the consensus is that its a "Cash grab" (I dont blame anyone for making this argument), I would expect that OSers would treat it that way and lower their expectations.Comment

Re: Should I buy the game now?
Nah. If it was a pure cashgrab you wouldn't see the updates they've done for free post-release, or they would've obviously monitized it. I take it some of the updates have gotten more people to buy the game, but I doubt it's that significant.
I for one would also expect the members here to lower their bar, but core gamers in general seem to have issues with it. The industry is changing. A lot of people are apparently buying games without any demo'ing or information-gathering, and content themselves with just the basic experience. If you keep up with your high expectations, it'll only need to more disappointment.Comment
