Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo Impressions

Woooo, I finally submitted that SOB Chuck, Beat him down and worked the ground game through three rounds. I got him to my guard from the clinch and then transitioned into rubber guard. Hit him with a few punches to the head from that position and prevented from transitioning twice, then I caught him with a triange. Thought he was gonna bust out of it again, but I slid backwards and locked it in. Submissions are WAY more satisfying that KOs and decisions.

EDIT: Awesome, I just KO'd Chuck with a flying knee with 4 seconds left to go in the 3rd. I nearly had him with a kimora with about 1:45 remaining, but he slithered out. He was tired as hell, but I didn't have enough time to take him back to the ground, so I waited a bit and threw the knee... caught him square on the chin.. brutal finish.

Also, a few fights ago, Rua (me) had an absolutely disgusting-looking cut over the eye... like oozing 2 inches wide kind of thing.. yeeech.

      +1

I think the submissions will be better in versus because it becomes a button mashing competition (though I think to get out of a submission the defender must use the right analog stick).

You can get out of them either way. Buttons are brute force, analog stick is technical.

I thought Mazagatti was a bad ref but he never did that.
Damn you get knocked out and the first thing you get is a pair of sweaty ref nuts as your smelling sauce.

This game wasn't even on my radar and now it's a must buy.

Just a little advice for those who are struggling with the ground game on Advance, practice on Experience. I've improved a lot just spending some time working on my ground game on Experiance, now I could keep Chuck on the ground for more than a minute on Advance.

Jeez, I'm just dominating Rua on advanced... Chuck is fun as hell to use, I was sleepin.

The last fight I caught him with an overhand right which knocked him down.. he wasn't rocked, but I lunged at him aith a falling punch and caught him on the chin. That one rocked him and I just stood over him blasting away through his blocks for the TKO. I LOVE that signature major transition from close open guard with the slam -- I rocked Rua with that one and then hammerfisted my way to victory. I can control the ground pretty well with Chuck on advanced surprisingly -- Rua will get on top of me if he catches my kick or something, but I can normally protect myself and get a reversal then just pound him.

The slams are great -- can't wait to kick the crap out of my friend that used Chuck the whole time ha.

I love the side mount. Those high knees to the ribs are deadly.

This game is going to be a party game for months to come. Friends (who were casual MMA fans) were over and I fired up the 360 and we played the game for a few hours...amazing fun with two players. Countering submissions and passing is THAT much more suspenseful and awesome when there's someone else in the room with you trying to spin the analog stick at the same time.

This is a game that is as fun to watch as it is to play...you can't say that about many sports games. Consider it sold!

Anyone know the name of the first song that comes on when you fire it up?

                        Thanks.

Flick the right stick left or right when you feel the transition coming.

I don't even wnat to mess with him on the ground so a lot of the time I'll just standup (left button) if I'm dominant. It's very very very hard to get up from mount, either you give your back, but then you just go back to mount . or you get pounded.
There is literally too much to understand at once though, I'm going to have to do the tutorial way more. for example when I'm in underhooks, i forget what to do and just stand mashing out of desperation. I got rua in a full thai clinch w/ just by transitioning but never tried to thai 'whip' him, not sure if non-thai guys can do that. I love being able to move a bit while jabbing, and I'm tossing some big combo's together. At least if I lose, ...he looked effed up too lol.
One of my favorite things to do so far is blasting hard knee's from side control! you can do little 'how ya doin' ones, or the jumping into them trying to bust ribs style.

shame there is no live for the demo though.

                            360 btw.
I took Rua just for the fact i knew his grapples would be more effective and i was interested in how the ground game would work. I SKIPPED the tutorial and proceeded to get wrecked in RD1 with a VICIOUS head kick from Chuck...LOL...it was sweet.

I then spend about an hour in the tutorial section and jumped into another game. I made it to RD 3 (on the 3rd difficulty setting) and lost by ref stoppage. My face looked like hamburger. Ruas' Nose, cheek and forehead were cut and bleeding...NICE TOUCH and VERY well done BTW.

SEVERAL matches later after getting KO'd, TKO'd etc i finally pulled out a 2nd RD SUBMISSIOn by armbar with 13 seconds left. VERY intense and satisfying.

Cant wait til May 19th when it drops. I think based on the DEMO this will not disappoint any fan of the UFC or "fighting" games in general. I feel it is quite technical and is hardly a "button masher". Just from the 2 fighters given in the demo (Liddel and Rua) there is a ton of potential depth to be had.

                            Good stuff.

I only played one match of the demo, and I can already tell that this will be a purchase for me. I can also tell that this will be the first game in years that I will be purchasing a Brady Strategy Guide lol. I don't watch much MMA (one of the few who prefers boxing more), so I'm not up on the strategies, but I will have fun playing this game just for the depth in strategy alone. I hate games where you can just button mash your way to victories (a la Fight Night Round 3). I'm hoping that Round 4 also delivers the depth that it is promising. That will make two amazing fighting games for the collection.
