    i'd like more info too.
Pretty much everyone mentioned in the thread so far is a UFC fighter. So just watching TUF, Ultimate Fight Nights, and PPVs and eventually you'll start to know who these people are too. UFC Unleashed is also great for catching old fights. Its a compilation show that Spike shows alot.

MMA weekly used to have a TV schedule that listed every MMA related show on TV but it seems they dont do that any more.

MMAjunkie.com and MMAweekly.com are two good sites to follow news between shows though.

Watching the unaired prelims also helps.

I know he got kinda lucky against Werdum, but I'd like to see Junior dos Santos fight some more. He crushed some scrub at UFC 95. I think even though he is a bit undersized, he is quick and may be able to make a run in the heavyweight division over the next the few years.

You guys might also want to check out MMA Live. I think it's one of the more entertaining shows. Every thursday they put up a new episode on the ESPN website.

I forgot all about him. He's gonna be a good one.

No luck involved. He's just a better striker than Werdum. Doesn't take much. Hell that scrub as you called him Struve would probably outstrike Werdum too.

                Re: UFC Rising Stars

I think Jon Jones has alot of raw athletic talent and could develop into a pretty good fighter once he improves his technique.

Rumble Johnson is a freak athlete i wouldn't at all be surprised if he was fighting for a title at some point, his skills have really developed well.

Im not all that high on Pat Barry, i just think he will prove be be another cross over K1 fighter, with bad takedown defense and no submission game.

I also consider Demian Maia to be more of an already established fighter, rather then an up and comming star. He will get a title shot, but i think its only a matter of time till he gets a guy who can stuff his takedowns and expose his weak striking.

I used to be EXTREMELY high on Thiago Tavares, i thought he was the next big thing at LW. He seemed to have a balanced skillset, but has had some real lackluster performances to go along with his moments of brilliance.

Keep an eye on how Grey maynard is developing he is slowly becoming a very solid alebit boring light weight fighter.

Dustin Hazlett- I love watching this guy fight, he has SICK jiu jitsu and his striking has really been improving, he gave Koshcheck a really tough fight before getting caught with a high kick. I think with some more development he will be a very solid fighter.

I also like steve cantwell the former WEC lhw champ, this guy has great technique with his kickboxing mixing up punches and kicks, along with bodyshots. His power hasnt seemed to come along yet, but i think this guy will be great, he gave cane a very tough fight.

Luis Cane- Im not sure if you would consider him a true up and comer, but this guys really growing on me. I was very impressed with him against Cantwell. I thought he looked a bit sloppy against soko, but im starting to appreciate him more, he kinda reminds me a bit of Chuck liddell with better defense, he throw his punches at very awkward angles and they don;t looke all that clean but he seems to have some serious power too.

Indeed... I'm a huge Hazlett fan.

The arm bar he put on Josh Burkman was the best submission I've ever seen.

                  Plus, his nickname is "McLovin".

Alot of people jumped on that train even though he hadnt done thing to deserve it. he beat Kotani who not only sucks but was fighting in his first fight where strikes were allowed on the ground. Then he beat a completely sucked out Jason Black who was gassed before their fight even started. When he finally ran into some decent competition he had some trouble. Still he's looked good in his last couple fights and might live up to the orginal expectations yet. Sucks he got hurt. He was gonna sub Melvin with the quickness.

As for Hazelett. He's the man and I'm pissed he didnt make it into the UFC game.

                      Re: UFC Rising Stars

Well when ur looking at up and comming talent its not always about who they have beat, but the skillset they show since they are not yet fighting top tier talent. So the Thiago hype was justified by the skills he showed, striking, wrestling and jiu jitsu wise.

The Jason Black win (wether Jason was sucked out or no, its his fault if he was) was a very impressive showcasing of his skills. He also had a fight of the night that was VERY close with Tyson Griffin keeping the hype train going. I think the Wiman fight kinda exposed him as not as contender ready as we all thought he would be. His striking looked abysmal and he gassed.

ohhh and how can you not like a fighter name "Mclovin" haha...Yeah i would have liked him in the game too. Hazlett vs Tamdan Mccoy was a good up and comer fight also.

His variety of throws is amazing. The leverage he gets with these is very impressive.

Also, John Hathaway is a young British lad, who's 21, had 6 or 7 fights already and looks very athletic, his wrestling is very good, and his first UFC fight was a victory in Dublin this year.

The guys I'll go with are

Luiz Cane - This guy is a beast. Love his killer instinct. He punishes every guy who he fights. I see him as champ within the next two years.

Ben Saunders - He is a very nice striker, and has great length. It may take a while for him to reach his potential, but he's got the tools.

                            Jon Jones
                            TJ Grant
The thing about Johnson for me is that I keep thinking he's a middleweight - but he's a WW! it seems impossible, like really physically impossible to be that big and only weigh 170. He's 6'2" and has big muscles. What he lacks in experience, he makes up for in size.
If I was a top WW I'm not sure I'd want to fight him because it would seem like fighting a LHW lol
I'm prettys sure he'll be top 3 in the division

I like Jon Jones too, but lets be honest - that version of Bonner looked pretty crappy too - Jones is a rising star, but he needs more time and imo would get killed vs the top dogs right now. it will be interesting to see how far he goes because he's really athletic, but lacks that fight ending one punch ko power.

I really liked Gray Maynard's last fight. he wasn't boring at all imo, he looked like a pro boxer to me - and to me, the lighter the weight class, the more important it is to be a very good boxer. He's got a bright future if he keeps progressing like that.

I was/am a kampmann fan, but i realize now he isn't a 'rising star'- it looks like he's reached his full potential, and his problem is his strikes lose snap and power halfway through the first round - he still keeps wrestling strength and can try submissions, but he can't hurt anyone beyond the 3min mark of a fight! He's a great kickboxer but in mma he only has tko power in the first couple of minutes when he's mixing it up w/ someone good.
