Re: OS Official UFC Undisputed Strategy and Help Thread

I'd suggest holding off on forming judgements about submissions. With Chuck being in every match, it's hard to tell what submissions are really like since not only is Chuck very good at not getting submitted, he's also not very good at submitting others. I mean, it's been over 10 years since any fight Chuck has been in has been decided by a submission.

So either submissions will be more normal on account of the different stats of other fighters, which would be phenomenal, or submissions will still be too hard, which would be disappointing.

But for now, there's just no way to really tell.

Yeah, that's definitely true... I'm not too worried about that with all the different fighters available, but that would be my only gamplay-related complaint as of now. I do hope there will be spontaneous submissions in the full version -- playing a human will probably help with the "surprise factor" and the variability of submissions, but it would be nice to be able to make a smart counter and take the CPU out in the first round.

I did it before in the 1st round with Rua. Caught Chuck in a kneebar while he was trying to transition into something else. Just got to be quick about it and just throw out subs one after another, he can't block them all.

sorry if this is a noob question but could someone explain or link me to an explanation about which position is which? like half-guard and open-guard, and north-south, etc.?

I really love the demo but I don't really know what I'm doing on the ground.

          thanks.

As far as the game is concerned, the best way I've found is to pause when you're in an unfamiliar position and go into the action list. Sometimes it won't be updated immediately, but if you've been in a given position for 1-2 seconds, it should show that position's moves. Anyway, the 2nd row (I think) shows the name of position that you're in and then you move the LS to cycle between strikes, transitions, submissions, taunts, etc.

That's how I learned the ones that I wasn't familiar with, since I'm not a huge MMA fan who already knows all this stuff.

Open guard = a person on top of you in between your legs and your legs are spread apart

Closed guard = a person on top of you in between your legs and your legs are wrapped around them closed.

Half guard = the same as above, only thing is you only got your legs wrapped around one of their legs.

That's the one area I hope they adjust slightly for the retail -- seems like there's no way to submit someone unless their stamina is shot, and even then, it's tough. I wish they accounted for the "surprise factor" of submissions -- like if you nail someone with a flying armbar out of nowhere, that should be harder to break than the obvious rear naked choke when you have their back, etc... submissions that come out of counters should be very tough to break.
Been tapping out Chuck on advanced consistently in the 1st round by just letting him wear himself out from trying to get me off him on the ground

Whenever I try to stay on top (even while keeping busy) the referee stands us up. I'm on beginner, not sure if that matters.

What is the best way to set up the Thai clinch? I can't seem to get it going even when Liddell is covering up.

It is easy if you can sidestep one of his punches.

Only problem I am having is getting Rua off the mount on Advanced. Nothing I do gets him off of me, the only way I can shake him is if he goes for a sub, I can power out of it.

Wooo, I think I'm finally getting the submissions down. I got Chuck twice in a row with armbars on Advanced, one from open guard (2nd round) and the other from mount (1st round). The key to the early one is the transition from rubber guard to mount -- that is absolutely killer. I just held him down in mount and hit him with a few hammerfists and body blows. After about 8 struggles to escape, I grabbed his arm and finished him off -- so satisfying to win that way.

EDIT: 3 in a row!! Feeling great... got him shortly after the beginning of the 2nd with a triangle choke out of rubber guard. Rua is deadly with those big transitions and his very tough transition defense... it doesn't matter if I'm in dominant position or on the bottom, I'll be in good position soon enough and stay there until he's worn out. The only time he sneaks out is when he gets a reversal or I get anxious and strike as soon as I get the new position.

Button mashing or rotating? I turned on the stamina bar just to see how low I could get Rua before I could submit him with Chuck. I know Chuck isn't good at subs but w/e. Anyway I had Rua down to 1/4 life by the end of the first round. I would keep powerbombing him when in his guard, throw a punch or two when in standing gaurd then get back down and powerbomb him again. By the end of the 2nd round he was about 1/8 stamina. When the 3rd started he could barely stand up and I'd leg kick him still stunned. I tried subbing him 3 times in the 3rd and I still have 90% of my health but he kept breaking out of it.

Also, how do you go from rubber to full mount with Rua? And if I'm on my back with Chuck how do I reverse to get on top. Doesn't matter if I minor or major transition w/ or w/o holding LB he either cliches or tries to kick him off.
