Little late to the party here, had a race in Reno this weekend. Had to drive all over town to find a lace to watch it and came in on the 3rd round for hughes fight. I always believed Machida would win, but not with such a KO in the 2nd. I saw this going to more of a late round sub or decision.

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida
Anyways,
people have been hating on Evans for unwarranted reasons but if you can't show any compassion to him of what he and his wife went thru this weekend, just evil-spirited .
Another thing I noticed now is a lot of people have discredited Evans and saying he's overrated yadda yadda yadda.....shows how fickle fans can be. I still think he's top 3 in the LHW division and if he has a better gameplan if he faces Machida again, he can beat him. I said before the fight that his power/striking is overrated and his best bet is the wrestling/GNP method. I have no clue why he didn't attempt it once the whole fight.
Maybe he was just too frazzled by machida's style , I don't know. I just hope this doesn't derail his career. Still has plenty to offer. I was never a Rashad fan, but the amount of heart he showed on those last 7 punches was just awesome and made me appreciate him and will root for him his next time out.Last edited by phillyfan23; 05-25-2009, 09:49 PM.Comment

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida
Watching Machida in person has to be pretty amazing. Like most people, I think Joe is just honestly impressed with what he can do. Losing to him isn't anything to be ashamed of, Rashad will be just fine.Comment

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida
I laughed at the youtube clip of her on Dana's blog. It's great to see someone with such a big mouth when her husband is winning get thrown into chaos mode and see how she wigs out when someone teaches him a lesson in respect.Comment

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida
the in-the-ring showboating from Evans is clearly a strategy to psyche himself on and his opponent out. If you watch clearly in the Griffin fight, it kinda took Griffin by surprise and Evans got hyped.
The machida fight, after Evans got nailed by a head kick early 1st round he did that hip movement taunt. It's the same thing he tried , but it didn't work.
If you watch Pacquiao fight, he does the same exact thing when he gets nailed. He always raises his hand and says "bring it on" when he gets drilled. When I see that, I know he got hurt a little bit. Hearns moments before the Hagler KO was smiling like there was no tomorrow. It's just a natural reaction for some guys I guess.
And Evans was very very repectful not only pre-fight and the post fight festivities, but as far back as a months before the fight always saying how he appreciates Machida's style and says it's very technical and effective. I just think his KOing people's heroes have given him this rep honestly.Last edited by phillyfan23; 05-25-2009, 10:34 PM.Comment

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida
I would hardly call it nonsense Pappy. Just because you don't see him as being disrespectful doesn't mean the majority agrees with you. Judging by the reaction Rashad got as the champ I'd say it's a safe bet to say that most people find him to be disrespectful. When you act in the manner that Rashad Evans does you open yourself up to heavy criticism. As a fan of Rashad Evans you better make sure you are immune to carpal tunnel if you're going to try and defend him every bash he gets. :wink:PSN: ScoopBrady

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida
Lmao @ the carpal tunnel line.
I'm not sure the dancing has that much to do with the hate he gets, but I'm sure it doesn't help. I think people just don't like his personality for whatever reason. If Rashad was a goofball like Rampage he'd probably be a lot more popular. I loved watching Roy Jones in his prime so I'm kind of partial to Rashad's style. I think as a fighter you do whatever you can to feel comfortable and throw off your opponent. The best way to slow down all the shucking and jiving that he does in the cage is to do what Machida did last night.Comment
