Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida
That's because the level of the Middleweight Division at that time was absolutely garbage. David Loiseau? Nate Quarry? Ken Shamrock? Curtis Stout? An over the hill Evan Tanner? Come on now.
Anderson was and is on a different level than Franklin but anyone with a brain could see that from a mile away.
It's easy to discount some of that competition, but someone like Loiseau, he looked great leading up to his fight with Franklin and everyone thought he was a legit contender until Franklin destroyed him.
And let's keep in mind, it's not like Franklin has been exposed. Despite his losses to Silva he's still beating everyone else the middleweight division has with the exception of a close split decision loss to Hendo, which only reinforces those two being 1/2 in the division until Anderson came along and showed there was another level (a level he was decidedly not at earlier in his career).Comment

Franklin was never overrated, Silva was simply just that much better than the rest of the division.Comment

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida
I know one thing some of us need to calm down after a ppv including myself because emotions are running wild and we start to sound like Sherdog. So I'll bow out of this discussion and just say this.... I was entertained with the main event and it was well worth it.

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida
I see it this way people can be in denial that Machida is a good fighter and isn't a top fighter but next time people see him fight they will see the LHW Champion that KO'd the guy that beat Forrest and guess what Forrest beat Rampage so..... Let's be honest Machida could go down the line and KO all the LHW fighters and guess what people will still hate on him just like they do Fedor. I'll go by what Dana said he is the best 205er.Comment

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida
I was using Fedor as a example because no matter who he beats or how he wins people will still hate on him. I don't recall pointing out the haters so I'll leave at that. Take care...Last edited by BSanders; 05-24-2009, 12:52 AM.Comment

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida
I think something we can all agree on is that Matt Serra is number one on the list of fighters best at using accidental illegal strikes. First knocking GSP loopy with a hook to the back of the head, and now blacking out Hughes for a bit with a headbutt and another hook to the back of the head. Kinda funny.Comment

Crazy.
I can't stand either really TBH but I find Serra way more annoying.Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida
I gave Evans enough credit to think he'd at least be the first in a long time to not look like a complete fool against Machida. He landed what? 1 leg kick and 2-5 punches? Rashad's wife was pretty upset.
Brock could probably outwrestle him if they do that some time (if he gets him down to begin with). Other than that maybe Jon Jones in about 3-5 years with his crazy style if he can keep the wins going that long. Rua,Rampage,Fedor (if Machida beats Brock),Forrest,Jardine,Hamil,Bisping if he wants to step it up,bring back Babalu while you're at it...just more for the resume that already has BJ,Tito,Franklin,Bonnar,Alves and now Evans.
One more for Hughes,Edgar? Tyson Griffin? Fitch? Kim? Paulo Thiago?
I was wondering why the Nover fight wasn't shown and thought Yves was getting booed for his last mess up then saw the pbp...
"Nover slips onto his face, trying to grab a leg. Referee Yves Lavigne steps in and stops it but Nover rolls over again. Yves backs away but then Bradley lands some more glancing blows. Nover springs right up and there is confusion while Lavigne waves his arms at 1:03 of the first. The fight is over and Nover doesn't look hurt. The crowd boos rabidly. Replays show Nover wasn't hurt. Massive gaffe by Lavigne."
I pretty much missed Krystof's fight (saw the end replay) and most of Hughes/Sera due to skipping/freezing and pixelization for 40-50 minutes. I'll be putting in a complaint with the cable company. I had to go find a stream wich was just fine though it was 15 seconds behind,oh the irony. It was mostly fixed for Machida/Evans and the undercard fight after.Last edited by goh; 05-24-2009, 01:25 AM.Comment
