Re: OS MMA Random Thread
The guys in front of him in the rankings are Werdum, Cain, Overeem in that order. I know Cain's got that medical thing and just had to pull out of a fight couple months ago (207).Comment

Curious to see how much Miocic gets for this fight. Last I read he wasn't happy about his paydays.

Nothing more infuriating than Killashaw fighting all the number 1 contenders, while Cruz was fighting guys that weren't even in the top 5... I dig Cruz, but that just made no sense, and was PURELY entertainment based decision making.PSN: Lord__Hazanko

Super random. The rankings mean absolutely nothing these days.

You don't see NFL matching up Colts vs Pats just because they have a rivalry..
It's a sport, not pro wrestling. This is why MMA isn't taken seriously in the sporting world, and why the athletes aren't treated, respected, and paid like other high level athletes.PSN: Lord__Hazanko

No doubt! And I totally get their perspective as a business. But it totally ruins the sport.

Can't apply NFL rules to combat sports though. If they did that Benevidez would've faced Mighty Mouse a ton of times because Joe B has been the number one flyweight contender for years even though he lost to MM twice.
Even here I don't really mind it if it's Jds. His last win was a dominant one over Rothwell (who was top 5 ranked at the time). He had a win over the champ. Cain is hurt. Overeem just lost to Stipe and Werdum's win over Browne wasn't that impressive. I wouldn't mind if Werdum got the shot but it's not a robbery in my mind.
FYI, Cody was in the top 5 when he got the title shot.

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
Isn't JDS on a 1 fight win streak? How do you reward that with a title shot?
He's 3-3 in his last 6, winning one, then dropping one, then winning, then dropping. I just can't understand giving that a title shot. JDS is a beast, and im a fan, but thats just wrong.
Garbrandt was ranked 7th going into the Cruz fight......
"Although No. 7-ranked Garbrandt claims he won’t be rattled on fight night, Cruz said it’s clear to him that the scales are already tipped in his favor before a single punch is thrown."
Dominick Cruz believes there's nothing Cody Garbrandt can say or do to rattle him ahead of their upcoming UFC bantamweight title clash at UFC 207. When it comes to psychological warfare, Cruz (22-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) said it's all one-way traffic coming from his…
Faber was at least ranked 2nd(With Tj still above him), but was coming off a loss, had 1 back n forth decision win over Frankie Seanz, and was gifted a title shot based on drama between him and Cruz.
Drama is what gets title shots, not actual stats, or who deserves it.
Meanwhile TJ, the real number 1 contender, fights back to back rank 2 fighters... Explain to me how that makes sense?Last edited by Haz____; 01-25-2017, 01:24 AM.PSN: Lord__Hazanko

I wouldnt be pissed if Werdum got the shot but its not completely underserved to give JDS a shot when Werdum is the only challenger who can claim to deserve one more than him. With that said, I think politics played into this a little because its rumored that Werdum turned down a fight against JDS. So the UFC may not want to reward a fighter who turned down a major fight with a title shot.
The first link you posted is after the Almeida fight and not after the Mizugaki fight (his fight before the Cruz fight). The second link you posted refrences the USA Today MMA rankings (which had him 7th and includes fighters not in the UFC like Bibiano Fernades, Marlon Moraes and Eduardo Dantas) and not the UFC official rankings.
He was ranked 6th by the UFC after the Mizugaki fight but moved up to 5th by the time the fight was held:
The Faber facts are slightly off: He wasnt coming off of a loss when he got the shot. He beat Saenz (I didnt think that was a gift decision) and was 3-0 in his last 3 bantamweight fights. The only recent fight he lost was to Edgar at featherweight. Given that Cruz and him had history, were 1-1 in their trilogy, Faber and Cruz were supposed to fight for the 3rd time when Cruz blew out his knee and the UFC community wasnt clamoring for an immediate rematch...I didnt have an issue with Faber getting the shot.
Your facts are a bit off with Dillashaw too. At the time Cody got the shot, Dillashaw was only coming off of one win since his loss to Cruz and thats
a boring decision over Assauncao.
A bunch of things weighed against TJ getting the last shot. His performance against Assauncao was bland. Cody knocked out two top 10 guys in the first round. Cruz wanted Cody (champion's choice always plays a role) and TJ isnt actually a draw.
Fast forward to today: TJ looked great against Lineker. Raised his profile with his post fight interview. He also now has back to back wins over top 3 fighters. So now he not only gets the shot but he gets to coach TUF (more money, higher profile) also.Comment

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
Good points homie. Hespect.
IMO Killashaw dominated Assuncao, but I feel you. And the Cruz fight was very controversial. I feel like TJ won that fight.
In the end Garbrandt won, so I guess I can't complain to much, because he proved he deserved it. And now we get to see TJ - No love which is going to be a baaaad *** fight.
HW division is just such a wierd division. I feel like it's constantly in such a odd state.PSN: Lord__Hazanko
