    Re: OS MMA Random Thread

Dana needs to just remove himself from the day to day of the business. He can then position himself as a fan. Jim Irsay is even crazier than Dana and he has a football team.

Just put out a statement that he won't be running it. Then he can say whatever he wants as an idiot fan. He can do press conferences still if he wants, but let someone else deal with the fighters.

Gil is stupid if he leaves unless the money is a lot different. I guess he has a lot easier road there and would only have to fight 1-2 times a year.

I personally won't judge Dana until details come out about this entire Gilbert Melendez situation.

What else has he done to make you say that Dana should remove himself?

He's done everything possible to give the fans what they want. He goes out and tries to get every big-name free agent possible. He tries to make big fights happen.

        - His refusal to push any of the commissions to change their drug testing policies and his reliance on the phrase "We are regulated by the government" anytime someone questions the current drug testing thats used.
        - His treatment of and comments about GSP since he retired.
        - Any time a fighter turns down a fight he immediately goes public with it in an attempt to shame the fighter.
        - His volatility when it comes to negotiations. Melendez. D. Henderson. Barnett. Rampage. Askren. All negotiations that Lorenzo had to handle because his temper/ego caused problems.
        - From years ago, his treatment of the press particularly Loretta Hunt (unjustified) who he called a **** and Josh Gross (justified) who he called a creep.

Those are just some of them. I think the roles need to be more defined in the UFC. Dana should serve as the promoter. The person who is on camera hyping fights. Lorenzo or Epstein (UFC's General Counsel) should handle all talent negotiations. They are cooler heads and are less likely to blow up negotiations because of ego. Silva and Shelby should continue to be matchmakers.

I have to believe the money is in line with what he demanded and what he was making in Strikeforce. This all stems from Strikeforce. SF was known for over paying its fighters especially the Skrap Pack (Shields, Nick Diaz and Gil) even though none of them were proven PPV draws or revenue generators. The whole Cesar Gracie team has an inflated sense of worth.

Seriously, if these are the best points we can bring up then I don't think Dana is going anywhere. None of those are enough reason, at least for me, to have him remove himself.

Those points don't outweigh all of the good things he's done for the sport. I honestly don't even think any of those points listed make me that upset at all.

Again, I'll wait to see what Gilbert was offered before I go blasting Dana. Barnett, Dan Henderson and Rampage all played their part in those negotiations breaking down as well. So you can't hold Dana 100% responsible for those. Askren? He has a big mouth himself and not too many people care about his style, he can fall off the face of the Earth as far as I'm concerned.

Dana's main flaw has always been his penchant to act like a douche bag if he doesn't get his way. Yeah he says things that are just unprofessional and unnecessary but those things don't make me believe he should remove himself at all. For the most part he has reason to say the things he says but he takes it way too far at times.

Caesar Gracie threatens to pull all of his fighters out of the UFC and have them sign with Bellator. He currently have around 6 or 7 fighters in the UFC, including 2 women fighters.

No he doesn't. He is not the manager for any of these guys, so Cesar can STFU. They ain't going anywhere unless they get cut.

Gil is really the only one that matters though and its debatable if he really matters to the UFC

A fighter uniform standard is coming to the UFC

UFC president Dana White, at a recent media luncheon, confirmed that the UFC is working on a deal that would require its fighters to wear a standard uniform.

MMAWeekly.com content partner Bleacher Report has sources close to the situation that said “the deal is with a major apparel company.” The uniform would likely encompass fight shorts, walkout shirt and hats, and every fighter in the UFC would wear it. This isn't something that would only be for fighters that have trouble securing sponsors. Even the top dogs of the UFC would be required to wear the uniform.

Bleacher Report's sources also noted that there would be “several spaces on the shorts and shirt” that would be reserved for fighters and managers to sell their own sponsorships. Outside of those spots, however, the uniforms would “consist mostly of UFC-branded product and the brand of the apparel company

Well there goes that sponsorship money.

Not exactly. The UFC would give each fighter a cut of the sponsorship money. They have already started doing this. You may have notices that during the last few US cards, some fighters have been wearing Monster/UFC branded headphones on their neck on the way to the cage. Monster did a deal with the UFC and those fighter recieved a payment for wearing the headphones.

The big issue is going to be if there are conflicting sponsors. Lets say Tapout wins the bid and is the licensed creator of all UFC walk out shirts. What if a fighter has an exclusive deal for with Affliction for walkout t-shirts. Will they allow the fighter to put Affliction on the shirt even though that directly conflicts with Tapout?

I really dont think its gonna happen anyway. Top fighters arent going to be happy with turning away money from major sponsors unless they get an equal cut from the UFC. Also sponsors could potentially file suit. Sponsors like Venum, Dethrone and Affliction all have paid 100k to the UFC to be able to sponsor fighters. They wont be happy with paying that money and now being limited in the ways they can sponsor fighters.

The only way I see this happening is if there is a fighters' union/association. I read about this rumor last week. It's most likely a bigger clothing/sport company, Nike, etc that would get the deal. They then act the same way that football players do when they have contracts with other competing companies than the team/league has.

I don't really care, maybe it would get the lesser fighters more money, but the UFC has to pass it on. The clothing is terrible now, so maybe it could get better if there was 1 sponsor and they don't need to cover the entire shirt with the logo.
