Holy Crap if they actually cancelled the card.

Talk about putting all your eggs in one basket. What a cluster**** Affliction is. For being such a "cool" and "genuine" guy, Atencio sure doen't know **** about being a promoter.

Hopefully this leads to Vitor signing with the UFC.

You talk like this is a good thing for Barnett.

I don't even care about Affliction or this card but when a man does this it is anything but an owning. Affliction is obviously a pathetic company but Josh Barnett is a pathetic professional. No good comes out of this.

Sure good comes from - it in the coming weeks we get to read probably hilarious stories of it and watch the aftermath of Afflication being completely shut down because of one single fighter. Kind of like how Kimbo folded Elite XC. It's hilarious.

I'm sure now Dana will be looking to bring some of the fighters from there over to the UFC, so that'll be interesting to see.

True, I wasn't thinking about that.

The UFC regularly sells out the MGM and Mandalay Bay w/o Brock and Fedor so that wouldnt be an issue. No way a Fedor/Brock fight drops from a potential 1.5 million with an undefeated Fedor to 750k with a one loss Fedor. Thats just throwing random numbers out there. The only difference a loss would cause is it would lower Fedor's demand and the UFC would have to build Fedor up with 2 or 3 fights before a title shot. If he's undefeated Fedor gets a title shot after one fight just like A. Silva and Rampage did.
Here's where you lose the buyrate. If Fedor has to fight his way into the fight, who knows if Brock will even be champion by then? The way you make the most money on this fight is to do it immediately and book it as the undefeated fighter vs. the UFC's best heavyweight. That's what makes it interesting. If Fedor were to lose, there'd be no reason to do the fight immediately and you lose all that awesome publicity.

Like the someone above said, it doesn't matter now, but MMA booking can't be done with the heart, it has to be done with the pocketbook in mind.

I'm pissed that we don't get to see:

                        Fedor-Barnett
                        Mousasi-Babalu
                        Belfort-Santiago
                        Davis-Vasquez
                        Daley-Heiron
                        Horodecki-Lauzon
                        Gomi in America again...

**** I forgot how pumped I was to watch this. I feel that my hatred for Barnett all this time has been justified now though.

But they can just as easily do that with the winner of the Carwin/Velasquez fight, with the added bonus of some casual UFC fans even knowing who Lesnar's challenger is in that case.

Plus, both Carwin and Velasquez would be able to go on American TV to promote the fight, they're both much more charismatic than Fedor, Carwin's already got a little thing brewing with Lesnar, and Velasquez would be huge in helping the UFC tapping the hispanic market.

The only angle they'd really miss out on is the US/Russia thing, but not only is that pretty old, it probably wouldn't work too well with the soft-spoken, dough-y Fedor. Ivan Drago he is not.

Fedor has a belt. Then again if they didn't take it away from him before he goes to the UFC Dana would throw it in the trash during the PPV.

So what happens now? Fedor owes Affliction one more fight and I doubt Attencio wants to just give Fedor to the UFC without some kind of payment.

Later on Friday, Affliction opted to get out of the promoting business and, in a joint statement with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, announced it would become a sponsor of the UFC. The fate of the fighters under contract with Affliction is not known yet.
Haven't seen this anywhere else than this Yahoo Sports article, but it appears Affliction may be done for good. Could Strikeforce or someone else buy the contracts instead of UFC, who knows.
