- It seems like the cards that look really weak on paper turn out to be good. UFC 106 was a good event.

- I have a hard time scoring the Main Event. I would be okay with it being a draw or 29-28 Griffin. I think you could make a case Ortiz won Rounds 1 and 2. You could make a case Round 3 was 10-8 or 10-9 Griffin. I don’t understand the judge that scored it 30-27 for Griffin. Somebody should have asked Ortiz what the hell happened in Round 3 because it seemed like he thought he won Rounds 1 and 2 and just didn’t want to get knocked out in the final round. It was a good fight but since I’m not a fan of either fighter, I’m not going to re-watch it.

- Rumble Johnson is an exciting fighter but it’s hard to cheer a guy that couldn’t make weight in the previous fight and than does an illegal move in the next fight. Koscheck made around a quarter of a million dollars last night. I don’t feel like he deserves a crack at GSP over Hardy. If Koscheck wants a title shot so bad, Dana should tell him he has to face Fitch (assuming he beats Pierce) first.

- I have no idea why the crowd was booing the Volkmann/Thiago fight. Volkmann looked good despite the loss.

- Baroni is the biggest tool in the UFC. He even had to put on his shades after he got his *** kicked.

- The Saunders KO on Davis was sick. That was the true KO of the night.

- This is 2 straight exciting fights involving Brian Foster. His fight against Rick Story was really good in September and he pulled off a huge upset last night.

I really enjoyed 106, possibly my favourite event yet since I started watching back at UFC 97.

PS - Koscheck isn't the number one contender. The guy's great, but Hardy's earned it. If Josh wins his next bout then maybe he fights the winner of GSP/Hardy.

I think that was largely because those guys stepped up on short notice to fill a much-needed co-main event spot.

It's not like there was an obvious choice this card.

No idea how they won it. Call me crazy, but I don't find a fight that's stopped 3 times because of fouls, thus never gaining any real momentum, to be fight of the night material. Not to mention, it's not like the stand up was some war - it was pretty mediocre. Then when it went down there wasn't much except for when he finally got Johnson into that choke. No way in hell that choke was Sub of the night either... BS on all 3 "of the nights".

His Opinion On Koscheck: "The thing I've realized about Josh Koscheck is that he's kind of like a turd that won't flush away," said Hardy. "He kind of wins a fight, and you think he's doing alright. Then he loses a fight and you think he's done, and then he wins a fight. He's always kind of floating around and he never really does anything."

On Koscheck As A Contender To GSP: "He thinks he deserves a shot as GSP but I think he's 3-2 in his last five fights, so he's not really in a position to be calling for a title shot. The guy's just a bit of a dick. I never get bored watching hm get punched in the face though, so that's always a bonus to see him keep fighting."

Didn't like this event at all.

Tito looked gassed after the first and wasn't even close to being in fight shape. Forrest couldn't even capatalize because he's so scared to lose.

The Kos fight lost its luster because of the constant breaks in action.

I hate when people attach narratives like this to unrelated actions. Sports writers do this all the time. A good team happens to lose to a bad team? "They were overlooking them", "it was a trap game", etc. No, it's just because competitions like these aren't as predictable as the sun rise.

Some "MMA" (read: BJ Penn) fans have done this to GSP, saying he's turned into a lay-and-pray fighter because of the Serra loss. No. Just no.

Forrest didn't fail to capitalize because he was scared to lose, but because he's not a power puncher (2 TKOs in 23 fights, none in the last 4 years) and Tito is really hard to knockout (0 TKO losses in 21 fights against people not named Chuck Liddell).

According to FightMetric, Forrest threw 114 strikes in the third round. You can say he could have tried to put more power behind them, and that's certainly a valid criticism, but he's always had a slap boxing style, it has nothing to do with any fear of losing.

All 3 of those people have already fought GSP and gotten their asses handed to them. Why not give the next hottest fighter a shot? The guy is on a big win streak and he just soundly defeated a very capable Swick.

I don't have a problem with him fighting GSP - someone has to, and so far GSP has fought most of the other contenders already. It's nice to see a new fight sometimes instead of rematches.

Did you even watch the Hardy-Yoshida fight, or did you just look on a fight finder? Hardy lost at the beginning of the 2nd round by DQ when he kicked Yoshida in the groin. Hardy arguably won a close 1st round. Oh and great use of MMATH. Paulo Thiago recently beat Kos, so maybe he's deserving of the title shot.

Hardy just beat Swick, who was in line for a title shot. GSP has already beat Alves, Fitch, and Koscheck. I think Fitch would deserve the shot before Koscheck, but after what happened during GSP-Fitch 1 I don't think anyone is in a hurry to see that fight again. Plus I don't see how recent wins over Trigg and Johnson are any more deserving than wins over Swick, Davis, Markham, and Gono.

I thought it was an absolutely amazing fight, and I'd love to see GSP-Fitch 2. I thought it was one of the best fights of the year.
