Silva is a smart, balanced fighter. Against Forrest he threw way more punches without countering than he did countering, people only remember the counter punches because they were the most spectacular.

And there is nothing wrong with being a counter fighter, it's very beatable it's just that most MMA fighters lack the knowledge on how to. But we just saw Edgar beat Penn, who is primarily a counter puncher, and Shogun take it to the most extreme case of a counter puncher in Machida.
Not based on his last few fights. His last 3 KOs have been from him coming forward and attacking.

Ummm, no. He always waits for his opponents to come in and counter punches them. He beat Martin, Lindland, and Franklin this way.

I'm not saying he is primarily a counter puncher, but he is no less the counter puncher that Silva is.

Just watched the Franklin fight. He knocked Franklin down with an overhand left hook coming forward....it wasnt a counter punch.

The current version of Silva is a primarily a counter puncher. People point out the Griffin fight as proof that Silva "brings it" when someone presses the action. IMO, thats BS. I've watched the Griffin fight probably 5 times (saw it live too) and one thing that stands out to me (after his amazing KO) was that the first half of the round there was no action. I remember sitting there watching the fight live and thinking myself "Why doesnt Silva push the action?" Silva did the same thing he did against Maia. Instead of attacking, he laid back, mugged and showed up Griffin for not rushing in and attacking him. Griffin took the bait and proceeded to get destroyed.

The difference with the Maia fight was that Maia wouldnt take the bait. He wasnt going to let Silva sit back and pick him apart by countering. By saying Silva is primarily a counterpuncher that doesnt mean i dont think he does other things well. I think he does everything well. He just chooses to only show his skill at countering and defensive skill.

          Are you kidding me?

Dude, in the Franklin fight Vitor didn't throw a single strike unless Franklin threw something first. Did you really watch the fight or did you just fast forward to the end?

In the Silva vs Griffin fight, right at about 2 mins Silva starts to press the action himself. He throws a three punch combo COMING FORWARD and knocks Forrest Down with a lunging left hook as Forrest is backpedaling and then stays on the attack. He keeps throwing and Forrest starts to back away and thats when Silva starts with the "Let's fight" stuff. Silva pressed the action almost the entire fight.

You're not being fair at all. In the fights you are using as examples, Vitor is on the defense the entire time, and Silva is on the offense a majority of the time. You're completely wrong.

I could link you to both fights if you want.

We are just going to have to disagree. The Belfort/Franklin fight didnt have much activity at all for the first 3 minutes. Franklin started throwing at the 2 1/2 mark. You said that he KO'd Franklin with a counterpunch and thats just wrong. There was an exchange, a slight hesitation and then Belfort caught him with a left hook. Then Belfort jumped on him.

I disagree that Silva was pressing the action in that fight. With the exception of the one combo you pointed out, he countered the rest of the fight (thats where the last two KD's came from). Thats one attacking combo in about 4 minutes of fighting.

Yeah, we are going to have to disagree. You wanted to make a point, and used the most extremely wrong examples anyone could ever use to make a point with, and that is amazing.
