I played against some of my buddies last night and this method is deadly versus a human. You basically put a big chunk of energy to yanking on the arm and then finish what ever is left with the shine. I was tapping my buddies literally instantly. spamming transitions is deadly in this years game.

Hey phobia, I dont have access to another player for a few days, but see if clicking and holding does anything defensively, especially if your opponent is clicking and holding too?Comment

Re: An alternative to the shine found.
i HATE the shine. Hated it last year, hate it even more this year since its the only thing we can use to get out of submissions. The developers seem to like it but it sucks. I got put in a submission (its happen a few times now) and as soon as i got put in the submission my guy tapped before i could even have a chance to shine. Rotating the stick in a circle is a pain in the arse and they need to figure out some other way to do submissions because the shine sucks.Comment

Re: An alternative to the shine found.
In the impression thread I said that the submission game needed to be revamped. After playing for a while and reading this thread I would have to retract my statement. It seems alot of u have issues with the shine but if u execute a sub at the right time u don't even need to shine. An ideal situation is a tired opponent and he's rocked. The shine is there for when u don't have the ideal situation and u gotta use force to lock it in. My main concern now is sub defense. On expert it's almost a guarantee u tap againt machida. I'm pretty sure u gotta do something other than the shine to get out but I havnt figured it out.Comment

Re: An alternative to the shine found.
I have never been subbed by the CPU on expert and I'm always using either Rampage or Shogun usually against Machida. He has applied submissions, but I get out of it every time. I never experienced when people say his submissions are automatic and it's near impossible to get out.
My first and only submission came tonight though. Me Rua vs Rashad.. The thought to sub him didn't come until the 3rd when I had him mounted and kept throwing body punches to decrease his stamina. I was full health and he was below half so I tried 3 times and never could submit him even though I'd drain his energy quickly I couldn't finish. Sub didn't come till the 4th and Rashads health was ridiculously low, full guard down postured body shots were rocking him. Got to mount and arm triangled him. Sucked that I had to drain him down that freaking far for him to tap. I could have easily ended it long before.Last edited by oChaos_Nine; 05-09-2010, 10:30 PM.Comment

Same here. I think I've only been submitted on expert once and it was by Machida but I've escaped multiple attempts of his.

Re: An alternative to the shine found.
ive been submitted twice on expert both with Rampage vs Rua. 2 seconds after being put in the submission my guy tapped before i could do anything. One was an ankle lock and the other was an armbar. You honestly think Rampage is going to tap right away from an ankle lock?Comment

Re: An alternative to the shine found.
I see this a lot playing head to head.. a guy will absolutely gas trying to finish someone, get taken down and auto-heel-hooked before they can even spin the stick (or whatever the leg lock from full guard down is, forgot it off hand).
If you keep your stamina high its impossible to get tapped on a garbage sub (kimura from the bottom in half-guard, leg lock from full guard, etc.) with the quality of the four fighters in the demo.Comment

Re: An alternative to the shine found.
Idk. I can get out of subs on expert sometimes, but there's also times where I tap almost instantly and I know I'm not gassed. In fact last night I tapped and I had almost full energy and still had stamina left, about quarter of full. It was against machida and he put in a kimura from side control. That's why I'm thinking there has to be another way to escape than strictly the shine just like howbu can tap someone without the shine.Comment

Re: An alternative to the shine found.
If there is any advantages to hold R stick in I'm not seeing it. I tried a lot last night and I could see the yank animation but the camera doesn't seem to be zooming in to let you know you're getting close and as soon as I'd let go and try to finish with the shine the CPU would get out of it.
For me, right now, it's too much work to submit someone. They have to be absolutlely drained on energy and stamina for me to even come close. I'm having to body shot and leg kick into the 4th round to keep from knocking him out all while keeping them from knocking me out on looping hooks and step straights.
If it's the same story for retail I probably won't even bother trying to submit because there's too many house rules involved to get one.Comment
