Overeem Removed From Strikeforce Grand Prix

Overeem taken out of the Strikeforce Grand Prix. He didnt want to fight in September so Zuffa pulled him and put in Daniel Cormier.

Works good for them. Now they don't have to worry about him winning it. Now winner will just face him. Cormier will destroy giant Silva as well. Everyone seems to think he is amazing now.

Stirkeforce is still a joke I see

The hell is wrong is Overreem.

Oh and Cormier is gonna destroy Silva? I dunno about that.

Edit: You know what though, that's too soon a turnaround from June 18, I don't see why they couldn't wait until October.

Cormier will dictate where the fight takes place. Only thing I see he has for him is out weighing him.

This is the clearest sign that Strikeforce will not exist next year. SF is contractually obligated to Showtime to complete the Grand Prix. Dana wants the semis in Sept so that the Finals can be held before years end. Overeem refused to fight in Sept because of a toe injury and was replaced.

It may still exist, but probably not on Showtime unless they want to pay more money. UFC may want to use SF as a minor league system and put the cards on free tv. If they don't do something like that, they are missing a big chance to grow the sport. Having more and more fighters will only dilute the PPVs and make them not worth the cost because there will need to be many more now.

              What about height though? haha.

I have high doubts about Cormier's chances and the step up in competition. The sheer size difference is alarming. I can't wait to see if Cormier takes Silva down and if he has the strength to keep him down.

Why? Silva beats Fedor impressively and people think he is the next great. He almost got Ko'd by short notice Mike Kyle, and LHW and Cormier is an olympic wrestler who is only getting better as he trains more. He is with AKA, so Cain can give him a few tips on fighting a mammoth

having him in the GP was stupid anyways, and I don't blame him. They want him to fight in less than 3 months while Silva has been off since february. SF was completely inept at scheduling and executing this tourney. Should have put all 4 opening fights on the same card.

Oh well, the tourney sounded cool, but it's still the same ol Strikeforce.

Whoa, nobody ever said anything about Fedor nor about anyone being the next great.

Cormier is a cool prospect even with his age, but Silva is in every shape a vast step up in competition.

From the handful of fights I've seen Cormier which is half of his MMA career, I'm not convinced he will destroy Silva. That's a bold statement to say the least.

I didn't say he would destroy him, but I do think he will finish the fight via GnP. Silva is very legit though

IDK in your initial post you did say Cormier would destroy big foot Silva.

I mean I wouldn't be shocked if Cormier pulled the upset but I just don't see him walking through Silva, especially since he didn't walk through his last fight against a much worse opponent.

Welp, I am stupid and stand corrected :/ Technically speaking though giant silva was a 7 foot tall brazilian that fought in pride...

I'll certainly be cheering for Cormier. Down to earth guy who's gone through a lot. Definitely have to use his speed and quickness as they are advantages in almost any fight he has against heavyweights.

Hopefully he can stay out of Silva's grasp and bear hugs..

I just think it'll be one of those fights where experience rules

You brought up his Fedor fight and what you failed to note is that Silva ground and pounded him when it went to the mat. Cormier is a great wrestler no doubt but he still has a long way to go in this sport.

This fight will go like this:

                              Round 1:

Cormier attempts to constantly take Silva down with little success. Silva will have Cormier's face swollen from the standup.

Round 2: Cormier will eventually get Silva down but does not have the size or strength to keep him there. Silva will eventually tire him out and ground and pound Cormier where it will end toward the end of this round.

You are under estimating Silva's abilities on the mat. Werdum struggled to get him down so I don't see Cormier doing any better. This is a mis-match and no I don't think Silva is all that great.........just better than Cormier at this moment in time.
