The huge change from last year to this year is the overhaul of the quick strikes. As a boxer, I am loving it. I'm landing killer combos with jabs, straights, uppercuts, and hooks, all the while staying on the outside and making Jones look silly. I could have a lot of fun with this game.

100 percent agree with this. You can make the guys who like to hit with the power shots ineffective. I'm essentially counter-punching with rampage.

EDIT: And you can still get caught. I got rocked twice by Silva. I survived the first onslaught. The second, not so much.

Anderson Silva jabs are very powerful. I was destroying Jones with jabs. So I do like not everybody can do every move EFFECTIVELY. You can really tell the difference between Anderson throwing a leg kick and Jones doing it.

FINALLY it will be fun playing as a muay thai fighter and just destroying people with leg kicks.

Combos reign supreme. threw a 1-2, Silva countered with a straight, KO'd him with a ducking left hook.

This game is a must get.

1. Stand-up - online many may call me a ground whore because I take it to the ground and do subs. THe reason why is because the standup just seemed unrealistic in 2010. This years version is pretty sweet. There is actually a jab for starters. With the stamina on peeps get tired and its not a pure slug fest. Its reasonable. Just like the devs said you can mix up short strikes with sways and power shots for some awesome combos

2. Ground - Its too easy to get up. THe focus for the game is clearly stand up...but the ground is not bad. there is more action there if nothing else. But being on the ground no longer feels as dominate as it should

3. PRIDE mode - I may NEVER go back to the UFC. Stomps plus the PRIDE presentation is awesome. I was sold as soon as PAGE KOd Wandy and one of the replay angles was that stupid referee helmet cam. Bas Rutten is awesome

4. Submissions - they suck...but at least it is not the joystick destroyer it once was

I will be placing my pre-order at Gamestop tomorrow

Ok so three quick fights and here are my thoughts:

- Both fighters push forward like crazy until you take them down or push forward. If you back off they will continue to push forward no matter what. This was in 2010 and it seems to be the same way this year.

- Not having any issues going to decision. All three fights went to decision.

- The higher you go up in difficulty, the less reckless the CPU is. On Expert, the CPU counters way more and steps back. Not enough for my taste but it is better.

PS3 demo is available now.

Not here in Florida. I checked all over the PSN and even searched the store. No demo to be found. Im thinking they may put it up at 9pm in the east coast.

I always used to transition in the wrong direction and go from full mount to side control by accident lol.

I really see no benefit of "pro control"

Online pro control v. amateur control...pro always wins.

Offline pro control reversals are more difficult to pull off.

They totally screwed up the ground game.

They went back to the original version, completely forgetting how tedious it got. You sit in guard and can't do anything, then you throw a tiny little head punch to get a little movement and you get pushed off because then you're not blocking transitions anymore. It's going to become another "lay around holding block" with single punch/block/single punch/block happening all over again.

They changed it in 2010 for a reason and they seem to have forgotten that.

My initial impressions - a few games - were that they've done some great work. My later impressions (20 or so games) is that they've ****ed up the ground game again, the submission system is terrible, the CPU just throws haymakers constantly, power punches cancel out all other punches or attacks, body shots are too hard to do because you get touched and it stops your attack completely.

Honestly - not impressed at all.

The presentation for Pride as well as the added moves are awesome. The gameplay I'm not so impressed with. Pride mode is just Jackson walking around then throwing 3-4 huge punches, then walking around some more before doing the same thing ad nauseum. Then it goes to the ground and he reverses you several times... Then you get on top and try to throw a punch or two and are immediately transitioned backwards or off.

I hope THQ does go under and has to sell off all their rights. We might get a publisher who can come up with some better ideas.

I will buy this game for sure - if not just for the novelty of Pride mode - but I'm not impressed by the demo in terms of gameplay. It almost seems stats don't matter again. On the ground it's not about stats or attributes, it's rock-paper-scissors. Who picked the right move against what the opponent did... Standing, I already said, seems to be the AI just throwing power shots over and over.

I guess I should just try to be grateful that there is a UFC game and that Pride mode is in it, though.

Is there a way to punch with jabs/straights while holding the left joystick in any direction? The only way I am able to throw jabs/straights is when I take my thumb completely off the left stick.

Yes. You can hold it anyway but the direction of you opponent. So if you on the left attacking your opponent, holding the stick up, down, or to the left will throw a jab.

Sometimes it works when you hold up or down, but light and right don't work. You're probably better off just letting go for a second while you throw then getting back on the left stick.

Away from your opponent is an uppercut.
