Gegard is a mix of old school and new. A pride fighter who tapology has ranked:
#7 Current Best MMA Middleweight Fighter in the world
#17 Current Best Pound-for-Pound MMA Fighter in the world

    Stoppage wins over:
    Thiago Santos
    Jacare
    Mark Hunt (!)
    Chris Weidman
    Vitor Belfort
    Uriah Hall
    Dan Henderson
    Cyborg Santos

    Other wins:
    Ilir Latifi
    OSP
    Hector Lombart

Record: 44-6. The man is a *** **** living legend.

I think he's better than number 7 middleweight when he is really trying. DJ has him on his list of top 5 fighters.

He's great and has a fantastic jab, but is susceptible to takedowns. Part of me thinks Rory has no chance, and part of me thinks Rory gets takedowns somehow and decision win.

Honestly the man is an underrated GOAT.
I know, I know. We're talking about GOATs every damn time someone wins a fight, but hear me out on this one.

Let's break down some GOAT nominees.
        GSP
        Fedor
        DJ

These are people we could put on the Mt Rushmore of greatest fighters of all time.

GSP has only been TKO'd one time in his whole career.
        DJ has never been finished.
Fedor in 2009 was 31-1 with only one loss (against legit competition).

        These are insane accomplishments.

now let's look at Gegard. I've already mentioned his wins which are impressive to say the least. some aren't as flashy as you might like now, but his record goes back so far that we forget that some of these fighters that are now "mediocre" had a vicious, scary prime. Like DC once said: "I beat Bigfoot when Bigfoot was Bigfoot".

In 15 long years Gegard has been TKO'd once.

        5 time world champion
        - Bellator Middleweight Champion.
        - Former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion
        - Former DREAM Light Heavyweight Champion,
        - Former DREAM Middleweight Champion,
        - former Cage Warriors World Middleweight Champion
And at the moment of his departure from the UFC in 2017, he was #4 in the official UFC rankings (and he hasn't lost since leaving).

Some other fighters RIGHT NOW can seem better or scarier, but VERY FEW has the longevity and stable impressive record that Gegard has put forth.

in 2013 he was 34-3. Walking over current ranked LHW's like OSP and Iril Latifi. This man has done impressive work spanning 3 weightclasses.

I'm trolling a little bit here with the GOAT to push my point, but enjoy this man while he's here. They're not gonna be around for much longer. These glorious Pride Fighters.

That being said, my heart is with Rory, always. I've said it before, but whenever life gets hard I think of his face at the start of round 5 of Lawler VS MacDonald II.

I don't think most fans appreciate or even know how good Gegard is. He's had a quiet career and never really had a win that rocked the MMA world. He goes to work, gets his win, and goes home. Excellent fighter.

The finish in the female featherweight fight was pretty rad. Armbar defense slam and some ground and pound.

Also this promo with Goldberg and Rampage was fantastic. UFC could learn something.

Such a late stoppage by the ref.

Impressive Higo survived for so long after getting dropped by Pico's right.

What a night. Aaron Pico is the ****ing man! Damn that was impressive. Kid had a rocky start to his career, but young boy is the real deal and should only get better.

Lema's takedown defense looks phenomenal in this fight, no pun intended.

I enjoyed that whole fight, but I'm a dork.

                        Very impressed with Lima.

You're not tapping? Go to sleep then sir. Ok i'm just ready for the co main and main events. I'm a long time mma fan and been watching rampage and silva from the pride days, so there's no way I can miss a 4th match between these guys, despite the fact that they are both well past their prime. Then Mousassi and Rory is just a great fight. Rory has been dominant in Bellator so far but if someone can potentially stop this train, it's Gegard.

This is shocking. Wand actually not wild and spamming hooks?

Silva's skills looked better than I expected, huge size disadvantage.

Wand got caught by another right and the GNP was too much this time. Rampage and his slam on Arona was referenced throughout tonight.
                                Good stuff.
