Technically it will be his second loss. Jones just screwed the UFC bigtime. UFC has probably lost 50mil plus on this card.
I also doubt Jones will have that UFC sponsorship for his next fight.

He won't because he is a Nike guy now. This is an important day folks. This is when the sport starts to become like boxing. Silva and jones are becoming the pacman and mayweather of mma.

Agreed. I will actually cheer for Machida on the 22nd. Never thought I would say that

I will be pulling for Machida too. It's been a long time since I've seen somebody in the UFC go from such a fan favorite to one of the most hated in the way Jon Jones has.

Same here. I want him to KO him really bad now.

Dana: I don't give a **** what Greg Jackson thinks. He should never be interviewed by anyone again except for a psychiatrist.

I'm on vacation this wek but now I feel like I have to write a blog about this before joe writes a great one and makes mine unnecessary.

Poor jay hieron. That guy gets back in the UFC and the fight is cancelled.

I wouldn't be surprised if the UFC starts black listing Greg Jackson and all his fighters. Start putting them at the end of the line for everything. No more special favors for that camp, that is for damn sure.

You write great stuff man. I usually write these "Breaking" articles for Bleacher Report but they are so saturated with material over there that I thought it would be a good idea to post it here at OS instead. Perhaps it is something we can do more of down the road.

Side note: Pretty cool how Bill Plaschke (LA Times) got back to you on Twitter about the Dodger traffic.

Straight up ***** move by Jones. As the champ, it's your JOB to fight. UFC was selling tickets and PPV's off of your name. To turn down a fight is a complete slap in the face to the UFC and the guys like Couture, Liddell and Tito that helped build this thing.

In a way, not a huge surprise; Greg Jackson and a few other guys in MMA think way too highly of themselves and have way too much influence over these fighters.

I don't want to see UFC go the way of boxing, but it is trending that way.

Props to Sonnen for stepping up and taking a fight less than 2 months after losing the biggest fight of his career. That shouldn't be forgotten.

I will be rooting for Machida 100%.

Dana really tells you how he feels about you when you do something that he doesn't like. I'm on the fence about the Jones situation honestly. I'm upset that Jones didn't take the fight, but I also can't blame a fighter for managing their career as they see fit. It's cool to see a fighter step up to the plate on short notice because that's what we expect a warrior to do, but if he didn't want to take him on in 8 days who am I to say anything? I'm not the one who has to get in the cage. It's a shame that an entire card had to be scrapped because of this. Fans are really gonna be ****ting on Jon Jones now, but I'm sure he's getting used to that by now.

Times are definitely changing in MMA.

Like you I'm also on the fence about this whole thing.

A part of me is disappointed that Jon turned down the fight with Chael Sonnen. A champion is supposed to defend their title against all challengers. However, I can also understand why he would turn down the fight with Chael. What would Jon Jones gain by beating a guy with 8 days notice? He stands to lose a lot if he gets beaten by Chael Sonnen (who definitely has a legitimate chance of defeating Jon Jones).

If I was in Jon's situation I would probably have done the same thing and turn down the fight with Chael. I would have told Sonnen that I would want to fight him at his best with him having a full training camp to prepare. If Jon was to turn down a potential fight in that situation then everyone should call him a ***** if he were to do that.

A lot of what I'm saying is wishful thinking but there are so many things that go on in this sport that cause for fights to suddenly change. With this situation of going from preparing to fight Dan Henderson to fighting Chael Sonnen there is definitly a ton of risk on the side of Jon Jones. Jones has a number of advantages on his side such as fighting a man who has been fighting at 185 move up to 205 and is only getting 8 days notice. The advantages are definitely in Jon's favor but that uncertainty of only having 8 days to prepare for Chael Sonnen is too much of a risk if I was Jon Jones.

After spending the last half an hour thinking about this whole thing, I can't see why Jon Jones would turn down this fight. There are significant advantages for Jones in this fight and he gets a payday just to show up. I did talk about the associated risks involved but the advantages are just so much greater than the cons.

Jones' popularity is going to take hit after all of this.

I wonder if Jones got word this was coming and made the comments about Chael not really deserving a shot. The timing was weird on those comments.

Jones is turning into Silva and not the good part of him. The UFC should put timelines in their contracts where the fighters have to fight 3 times a year and must fight who they say. They could still negotiate, but they should have the final say.

Since Sonnen and Hendo are 2 different fighters. Dan is more of a banger and clinch person, Sonnen on the other hand is strictly I'm going to take you down and bash your head in type of fighter.

And lets be honest here, Sonnen is a legit threat to Jones even with a 3 month notice. Jackson over all though is killing MMA with his tactics.
He already had a fight, he is not accepting a new opponent. And Sonnen shouldnt be able to close distance vs the much taller Jones for a power double. It should have been a cake walk for Jones, and he declined it anyway.
