Re: UFC on ESPN 1: Ngannou v Velasquez
Cain should dominate this fight. He should be able to use his boxing to close distance and tie up Ngannou over and over again. At the very least Cain will exhaust Ngannou in the clinch, at worst Cain scores takedowns at will and sets a record for punches landed in a fight. Hell Cain may even box Ngannou up by the later rounds (though I doubt his coaches would advise it).
Cain’s definitely been written off by a lot of people, which I find surprising. Granted it’s frustrating when a fighter’s so inactive, but I don’t think Cain’s going to struggle in a return to elite competition. He’s the type of guy who trains all the time, he’s probably gotten better since we last saw him. I mean, the one fight he *has* had in recent years was a completely one-sided domination of a top 10 HW, where he looked better than any fight prior. He made it look like Travis had no business in there with him. I mean, if his loss to Werdum was a legitimate result of not preparing for the altitude, one could argue Cain never fell off in the first place. He just had an unfortunate string of events sideline him.
I’m of the firm belief that Cain is on the highest level at HW, his striking, his grappling, his movement and conditioning, it’s all fluid. It’s all one singular attack, every skill compliments his other skills, and he strings them seamlessly together. He dominates opponents, which is something you rarely see in MMA, especially at the top level, and especially at HW. He can fight an elite, top 5 HW, and just annihilate from start to finish. And I believe he can do this again. I can totally see him putting Stipe on his butt time and time again, boxing him up and out wrestling him from bell to bell. Only time will tell.Xbox GT: the relaxed guy -

I see this fight either looking like Cain vs JDS II or Cain vs JDS I. Either way I can't wait. Hopefully Cain is healthy and looks good in his return.Comment

Looking forward to Vick vs Felder. Both guys are so good. Gonna be a sick fight. Felder on a 3 fight streak at LW.
Lightweight is soooo deep it's crazy. I really think they could do 155 - 165 - 175 divisions and they would all be stacked.PSN: Lord__Hazanko

Well Cain is older now. His body won't look the same as it did yrs ago, but tbh he never really had a "hard" look body wise. Where Cain shines is that cardio, pace and durability. I think he can win if he can follow that Stipe gameplan, put the pace on Francis and wear him out with the grappling. If Cains cardio is still the same and Ngannou gets tired, Cains going to eat him alive. But, he HAS to avoid getting hit early on in the fight. Ngannou can put anyone out...especially in the early rounds and Cain is no exception.Comment

Re: UFC on ESPN 1: Ngannou v Velasquez
If Cain wins, it’s gonna be a dominant win. Like, 10-8 scores, round after round. It won’t even be competitive on the ground, Cain will just go knee on belly and punch Ngannou at will. If Ngannou tries to move, Cain will just shut it down with perfect positioning, then go back to knee on belly GnP. There’s really nothing Ngannou can do... if he tries to roll, Cain will just ride him and keep punching him in the face. If he tries to stand up, Cain will just shift his weight and shut it down. If Ngannou does somehow manage to somehow get back to his feet, a single leg will put him right back down.
Even if Cain is struggling to hold Ngannou down for whatever reason, he can still just push him against the cage. I highly doubt Ngannou has the ability to stop any of that. Cain is the most dynamic wrestler in heavyweight history, he does everything well from closing distance, fighting in the clinch, takedowns, ground control, passing, GnP.
Curtis Blaydes is a very basic wrestler. Good double leg, and good top control. No notable passing game, clinch fighting, or ability to close distance. Francis just had to shut down a few double legs to win that fight. Cain is a whole nother ball game.
So if Cain wins, I’m gonna say every round will be 10-8. If Ngannou wins, it’s gonna be a 1st round KO (possibly 2nd round).Xbox GT: the relaxed guyComment

That looks like an old body. I doubt he will have the same strength, so he may not be able to muscle guys around.Comment

Re: UFC on ESPN 1: Ngannou v Velasquez
^ Yh I agree his body does look older and it is. He has lost some muscle more than likely yh, but Cain has never had a great amount of muscle either and has always looked a little soft around the edges...
Imo its not about his look, but more about which Cain shows up. If its the sea lvl Cain we all have come to know him as, its gonna be a hell of night for Francis, granted he can't starch Cain early on. If it's not vintage Cain, Cain may be in for a rough and short night.Last edited by WarMMA; 02-16-2019, 06:04 PM.Comment
