I don't like either one if it helps even out the argument. Edge has his moments, and I think this whole Rated R thing is probably resurrecting his career from when he was tagging with Christian. He's got more moves than Cena, but honestly, who doesn't? Personally, I don't thing Edge does any one thing better than a lot of midcarders as far as in ring goes, which is why he was in that category for most of his career.

Austin was the first, true bad a$$ face. He took off as fans began to dictate who got cheered and who got booed for the first time in wrestling. And much like the nWo, his feud against the boss had never been done before...and if you think about it, who wouldn't want to stun their boss on a weekly basis?! Plus, Austin could wrestle...see his match vs. Bret Hart at WM13 (Stone Cold, not the Hollywood Blonde ) that got 5 stars. Combine all that with the fact that he held the belt during one of the greatest rating runs in WWE history, and that's why no one would ever say he's not champ material.

EDIT: The more I think about it, he was IC material as the Ringmaster, TV champ as Stunning Steve, and only a main eventer in ECW for a short period. He could always wrestle, but the anti-authority gimmick was everything, as was the timing for his push because the E was transitioning out of the Attitude era.

Cause he used to be good in the ring and on the mic,now he's avrage at best on both. I remember watching his match against Lesnar for the title and hoping he'd win now I don't want him near it.

          Just to touch on Edge:

I never really liked him that much during his E&C days and even when he first started in singles. The whole "Rated R Superstar" gimmick tho is very entertaining to me and I appreciate Edge busting his *** night in and night out.

He's a very entertaining heel which you don't really see much of these days. I mean there are entertaining heels but they don't fit the mold because there's a small contingent that actually cheers them on whereas Edge gets a lot of "real" heat.

The only thing i'd like to see changed is Lita as his manager.

To lump Cena in the same catagory as HHH is just totally disrespectful. The main reason why I cant stand Cena? He's trying to act the same way every time and it's just ridiculously annoying. I just hate his gimmick so much. Plus, even if he wanted to, he couldnt put on a good match.

And Edge, yeah, I was never a fan of his mic skills but he's tuned it up big time. Him as a heel is just great.

I agree with this for the most part. I didn't mind him so much with Christian, especially post-Brood in the "five second pose" days, but after he went into singles action I didn't like him much.

But the Rated R gimmick is good. The shoot style he's been using in his promos has been great, and like SPTO said, he's getting alot of real heat from the fans.

There's alot of wrestlers who have tons of talent, but can't find the gimmick to get them over(see Shelton Benjamin). Edge has finally found that gimmick, I think.

I don't know why so many people hate Cena. It seems to be the herd mentality. A couple of people don't like him and everyone else piles on. Dude is no worse in the moves dept than a bunch of people in WWE (partially because of the toned down style and moves being outlawed) . He's great on the mic, has a good look, can do a public appearance get a good reaction and can be on magazines and tv. That makes him championship material and why guys like Benoit don't get long runs.

                  Re: I seriously don't...........

I have NEVER liked Cena. I didn't like him when he first got to the WWE. I don't like him now. I most likely won't like him if he ever does turn heel. Hell, I never thought I'd live to see the day where I don't mind watching Carlito & Masters but even they've managed to grow on me. Everything about him is lacking. Some guys can compensate for being crappy wrestlers by being entertaining in other ways & vice versa but there isn't anything that Cena does THAT well.

All he does is spit a bunch of cliches, suck up to the fans & use the same elementary moves every match. And don't get me started on the FC (Fireman's Carry). I could turn on Memphis Championship Wrestling and see wrestlers the same caliber as him and anyone who has ever seen that garbage knows what I mean.

Cena's character is wack, yo. Heh. I'm not a rap fan period, but a "rapper with a heart of gold" gimmick just doesn't work.

Plus, as others have said, he's extremely limited in the ring. His matches are so predictable. He gets beat up for a while, then punch/kick, clothesline, spinning sideslam, 5-knuckle shuffle ("You can't see me"), F-U, STF-U.

Add to that the fact that he's been shoved down our throats, it's only natural we'd eventually resent that.

                      Re: I seriously don't...........

If he's going to always overcome the odds, why not have him chase the belt? That's a huge part of how he was able to get to that championship level of overness. That and the rhymes. The powers that be took those two things away from us. Of course he had to win a world title eventually. I know I wanted to see him do it myself, but all we had to end SD or RAW were either one of two things: an F-U with a pose, or that silly look he gives when the heel is celebrating up the ramp. As a matter of fact, I hate that stupid look he gives, sliding around the ring by the ropes like a worm so much now that it's one of the reasons I found him stale.

He was a terrible wrestler with potential when I first saw him in the WWE. I recently bought a DVD titled "Road to Glory" with Cena on the cover. It's terribly taped matches from UPW featuring some names. IIRC, it has three matches with Cena when he was known as The Prototype. I think the matches took place in 2001. Anyway, Cena had a better move set and his trademark charisma. But he was sloppy and not built to go more than 10 minutes. Now he does moves that fit the WWE style and his gimmick and his execution is alot more fluid. It's fairly obvious he can go at least thirty one-on-one. That's getting better to me.

All in all, I like Cena. I just liked him alot better without the belt. And of course, with those Freestyles. If he did them just once in awhile, they wouldn't get boring after awhile. They were much better than the cheapstuff he does now.

He sucks as a wrestler. Period. His moveset is terrible, and he is boring to watch in the ring. He has no business holding a title in professional wrestling.

That's not true, it's just what he is limited to doing in the WWE. He can have good matches... Just look at most of his PPV matches... he actually somewhat turns up the quality. Sure that could be argued it's his opponents stepping up but I think Cena is a very capable wrestler when he wants to be. As for his gimmick, it doesn't really work unless he's a heel. The goody two shoes rapper just doesn't make sense. I think a heel turn is in order and we very well may see it at Mania with a double turn with him and Triple H.

The only time he can have a good match is if the other workes carries him... I.E. Angle or someone similar or if he is in a straight up brawl. Then he is passable. Other than that...blah.

He would be slightly more passable if he was a heel again, but that will never happen...even though the crowd craps all over him on a nightly basis.

His gimmick is stale, he is boring in the ring...he just does nothing for me. He never really has and I doubt he ever will.

Cena's lame wigger gimmick has lost its steam. WWE tried so hard to get him over that it did the opposite, feeding us lines like how great Larry Bird was and how he supports the troops (all good thing yes, but very similar to 80's babyface your vitamins/say your prayers only in the 21st century.

Luckily for WWE, Edge holding the title gave Cena the underdog role that people haven't had for a year. See how long that lasts.
