It's not about the actual match taking away the "sacredness" of the Rumble win. It's the idea of the Rumble winner loses the shot after weeks upon weeks of hype and build up.

So let me get this straight (I'm not watching the PPV, but I just wanna get this straight):

Rey won the Royal Rumble, but faced Randy Orton tonight for #1 contender status at Wrestlemania and just lost? So Rey winning the Rumble means nothing now?

Why not just have Orton win the Rumble and maintain that tradition? It's sorta shot now.

Looks like wrestlemania will be mysterio winning the title in a triple threat match, followed by an in-ring celebration ala wrestlemania 10, and benoit, booker, malenko, angle, and all the faces will come out to celebrate for rey - maybe even bret hart coming out. i get chills thinking about it. its gonna be epic
