Re: Get Ready... \'Cause the Texas Rattlesnake is....

c'mon guys. i was kinda pissed at the way austin walked out.

if every wrestler walked out when he was unhappy about his character's storylines, wrestling wouldn't exist.

having said that, austin is arguably the most popular wrestler ever, and i'd like to see him back in the wwe asap.
(as long as he doesn't have the attitiude that he had when he left).

but let's not be too quick to start singing the demise of the wwe.

they went through a similar phase during the post hogan-pre austin era. during that period the wwe was much, much worse than it is now imo.

there's nice core young talent. and newcomers shawn o'haire and nathan jones both have star potential.

remember, wrestling doesn't have an off season. the wwe has been through tough times before. they'll be fine.

Cincy Kid you made a lot of great points and I agree with you. Maybe this is why i'm always buying old school tapes from someone online.

There is one good old school aspect in the WWE right now and that's the quasi-horseman stable HHH has going. I know it's not popular to say that but Trips actually delivered a very good promo about the stable on monday and hence i'm interested in how it turns out.

Austin's supposedly in great shape, and I think he just needed a break, to get away from the WWE and the politics backstage. I'm not the biggest Austin fan, nor the biggest WWE fan right now (kinda tired of wrestling at the moment), but there's no way that NWA:TNA could kill WWE, they just don't have the star power.

Can the WWE go any lower? Bringing back a wrestler who WALKED OUT on the company? I can GUARANTEE that if the WWE had the ratings they had 3-4 years ago they NEVER would have brought anyone back who had walked out on them. It's a cheap ratings ploy, and an insult to actual wrestling fans.

Re: Get Ready... \'Cause the Texas Rattlesnake is....

Cincy kid the reason I think it is different this time as supposed to the 93-94 times when ALL wrestling business is down is because of Vince McMahon's ego. He hasn't pushed anyone new this side of Brock Lesner. I'm afraid that all of that young talent will be wasted by the likes of Scott Steiner, Hulk Hogan (again), and guys like Taker who really should just put somebody over and move on. They have wasted so much young talent aquired from WCW.

Right now, the WWE's direction resembles the problem times of WCW that killed it. Too many old stars with too much input and not enough level heads. Sure, they have AA, Flair, Ace, Taylor, Finley, etc. All great wrestling minds. But the WWE is all storyline based, not in-ring based and I see no reason McMahon would change that. If the matches helped tell the story then those minds would be of great benefit. But with the soap writers the WWE employs to pump out the crap they do now, they will not get back to the 6-7 ratings anytime soon.

Wrestling interest, particularly in the WWE is picking up again. If they don't capitalize on that, then it will be the WWE that commits suicide. NWA TNA will just reap the windfall, not necissarily put them out. And as an earlier poster said, Uncle Ted is the wild card. If he puts his money behind any mid-major wrestling organization, watch out WWE. He did it once, almost killing the WWE, he can do it again.

Re: Get Ready... \'Cause the Texas Rattlesnake is....

I think if NWA:TNA gets a TV deal we're going to see the best wrestling we've seen since the heyday of the Monday Night wars.

There is SUCH a market right now for "realistic fighting". Everything is about reality these days, hundreds of new reality TV shows getting incredible ratings. The style of matches that the X Division, and Ring of Honor for that matter, put on are just incredible. Some of the stiffest kicks I have ever seen are happening all the time in NWA. I think if you put them on a national network, people are going to tune in to see this "brand" of "mixed martial arts" style wrestling.

The best thing about TNA to me is seeing the guys pushed that WWE wouldn't do anything with. Ron Killings, Jerry Lynn, Raven, etc...that and of course the incredible matches of the X Division...there aren't as many good X matches now as there were earlier, but before, people on other sites griped and complained about the horrible writing. Miss TNA Bruce, anyone? Bruce slipping on a banana peel and getting counted out?

I guess you've got to give a little to get a little. The storylines are much better now, they actually have several feuds going at once instead of one or two...and of course most of the matches are average to amazing. I think cutting back on the Lynn vs. Styles vs. Low Ki matches for now might have been a good idea...if we get burned out, those matches aren't going to mean as much. Let us have a little break from them, then bring them back in a big way, with those same guys battling it out for the NWA World Title.

Anyone else get a cool feeling when Styles was wearing the NWA Title Wednesday? One of those feelings like "yeah, he's gonna REALLY have that belt before this year is over"?

Styles/Raven/Jarrett has got the potential to be a great, innovative feud. I hope they take advantage.

And by the way my thoughts on Austin...I'm glad he's coming back to be honest...WWE has been BORING for months now. I don't even get Smackdown, I'm stuck with this abomination from the minds of Stephanie McMahon and Brian Gerwitz that we so endearingly refer to as Raw. Chris Jericho is the only thing on Raw that entertains me, and now it seems they are taking Sean O'Haire's character to Smackdown, I was really looking forward to having someone else entertaining on my TV on Monday nights. Hopefully Austin WILL be on Raw and not do the same old, lame, overused "Steph shows up on Raw and takes Austin to Smackdown" garbage they've done several times.

I'm really looking forward to Angle/Brock, HBK/Jericho, and all the rumored matches for Wrestlemania. I won't mention them, since I don't know how much you guys read into wrestling websites. I am also looking forward to Rock vs. Hogan at No Way Out, so I can FINALLY see Rocky again as a heel. I wish I got Smackdown.
