Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread

That's the type of thinking that would have kept guys like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, and Eddie Guerrero on the undercard fighting for secondary titles their entire career. Seeing how Mysterio's comebacks involve reversals and using his size/speed to counter his opponent instead of some ridiculous no-selling "Hulking Up" makes it entirely more believable.

Nope, I knew you were going to bring that up. Would you seriously put HBK and Bret Hart in the same sentence as Rey? I'm not talking early Rey. Today's Rey. C'mon man. I feel like you're trying to defend Rey when there's really nothing to defend. I'd rather not see that weak *** 619 or whack *** "tadpole".

EDIT: all those guys you named are taller than Rey by at least 5 inches and outweigh him by at least 25lbs. I understand you don't judge a wrestler by their size ( I feel like a joke belongs here), but seriously? I feel like by your guy's thinking, Juvi, Psychosis, etc should have all gotten shots. Hell, let's not kid ourselves, Rey NEVER is even in this discussion w/I Eddie's death.

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread

So a guy who's more over than 90% of the roster, sells merch, and puts on great matches with any and everyone shouldn't get a shot bc he's small? I'm sorry, but this is wrestling after all, if people can't suspend their disbelief just a bit then they should re-evaluate what they're watching.

As Santino pointed out Rey usually doesn't outstrong those guys, he beats them w/ quickness and reversals. And its not like he beats those guys all of the time or even the majority of the time. I just don't buy that the guy should have to be a cruiserweight for life, even at the end of his WCW run they started to put him over bigger guys.

And about Eddie's death, sure that played a role in his 1st run, but Rey would have eventually gotten a shot IMO at a world title run even if Eddie didn't pass away, the guy's too good in the ring and too over w/ the crowd to think that he wouldn't, and his subsequent WHC runs after prove that it wasn't just the goodwill of Eddie's dying that led Vince to put the belt on him.

All three guys have a lot in common. Despite being considered undersized at the time, all three guys got their shot due to being over as ****, which tends to happen. That would explain why Juvi and Psychosis weren't pushed to the moon. All three guys didn't do great drawing numbers as the top guy, although Hart did impressive numbers internationally. All three guys sold a lot of merchandise. All three guys were extremely charismatic. Then there's the point that Hart, Michaels, and Mysterio could have a good to great match with anyone, which is what actually matters to most fans. If more people were actually concerned with size over talent, 6'10/330 pound Diesel wouldn't have been the worst drawing WWE Champion of all time.

And had Guerrero lived, I'm supposed to believe his greatest opponent and one of the most popular superstars in the company wouldn't have been chasing the WWE/World Titles right along with him? Right.

Santino has been as over as Mysterio. **** that hurt to admit! So, although that means something......hell, Ryder was getting chants at Survivor Series while The Rock was on the mic.

Am I the only one that thinks Rey gets no title w/o Eddie passing? I feel like Rey's best stuff was within their feud. And I'm sorry, Eddie played that specific heel role so damn well, you could have had X-Pac play Rey's part and he would've gotten cheered.

The guy is 5'6. We're not talking CM Punk, HBK, Daniel Bryan.......the divas tower over him. Kharma could eat him.

King Booker, Batista, Undertaker, Edge, and goh's favorite, Orton.......and Mysterio were your champions around that time. Right around the time I stopped watching wrestling. Hated seeing Batista versus Rey.

Fellas, even w/ your guy's points (you bring up some good ones), I don't care what you all say lol. I don't like the guy as anything more than a mid card guy. No argument or opinion will change that. You could tell me he's the best in the world and I wouldn't care. I don't like his size, I don't like his lame moves, I don't like his outfits that put both Cena and MVP's colors to shame.

You guys are arguing his over-ness and ability, no one argued that I believe. People just don't like him. It is what it is.

This is a subject we'll just have to agree to disagree on I guess. Much like with the IC belt. As you can see, Cody sure brought prestige back to that. It is still just entrance attire like I said months ago.

It's always been entrance attire. Newsflash, these titles aren't real. The title is a lot further up the card than it was a year ago.

And there's suspending disbelief and there's pretending a 165 lb man is beating guys literally twice his size. And there's the fact that he has no mic skills or personality. His workrate is very good. Over guy with good workrate but limited mic skills and personality = upper mid card no matter his size.

Santino and Ryder being over for flashes doesn't match Rey being over pretty much from the day he walked into WWE in 2002. Rey's probably one of the 10 most recognizable names left in the company, grown men and NFL players wear his mask. I don't think its fair at all to compare Rey to guys like Santino and Ryder, who while are over haven't shown they can sustain it long term like Rey has.

That's fine, and saying you don't like him is one thing, but not seeing why he got the title runs that he did is another. If it was only bc of Eddie dying, then Chavo would've gotten a world title run. As we know, that didn't happen.

Rey being over, selling merch, being great in the ring, great babyface in peril to garner sympathy from the crowd, all had something to do w/ him getting the title as well. It wasn't only Eddie's death, though that did play a part and no one is arguing that. Saying it's solely bc of Eddie dying that Rey got a shot at the main event is where we disagree.

No one's saying you have to like the guy. Just trying to explain why others do and why WWE gave him a shot at the top, despite his size.

Isn't that where Rey has been for the majority of his run in the WWE? It's not like he's going out there and beating guys like Khali, Show, and Kane every week. For the most part he has been an upper midcard guy feuding w/ guys like Jericho, Ziggler, Eddie, Chavo, Punk, Rhodes, ADR.

He's only been World Champ 2x, compared to 2x IC champ, 3x Cruiserweight Champ, 4x Tag Champ, and the win in the WWE title tourney last yr. A guy that over isn't going to just stay a cruiserweight for life. For the most part Rey's been used great during his run. He's great at taking a beatdown and garnering sympathy to get heels over - he's done it w/ ADR, Eddie, Batista, Rhodes. That and the fact that he can put on a great match w/ practically anyone is why he gets pushed up the card when he does.

I'm not saying Mysterio should be dropped down the card. I was just stating why I don't think he should be a regular main eventer. The spot he's in is about right. Just don't have him feud with big guys because a) it's not all that believable and b) his matches with big men are never any good.

MitB is 8 days before 1000th episode. I doubt it. Didn't make sense to add anymore to that match any way (thank god!)
