From 1984-1990ish he was. That's a pretty long time to be THE MAN in the business that if he was somehow taken out it would've derailed McMahon's nationalization plan and the battle between WWF/JCP which morphed into WCW a helluva lot more interesting.

Everybody thought Hulk Hogan was untouchable, too.

Took them a long time to replace his character and type of impact. If they cut Cena tomorrow, they would be ****ed, and it would take a long time to build a new robot with the same broad reach that Hogan and Cena had.

But they still did. I never said it was an instant transition, just that they replaced him. Just like they replaced the Rock. And they replaced Bret Hart. And they've replaced everyone else that have been some of the most prominent figures in the business. They'll replace CM Punk.
