Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
This is absolutely terrible...I honestly can't believe they would do this to Christian, it's almost worse that he had it for "5 days" and drop it than not even having it at all. That would have been like King winning that ladder match for the strap, and then having him drop it back to Miz, seems kind of disrespectful. But my question is, was Christian hurt that the didn't let out yet?St. Louis Cardinals | Milwaukee Bucks | Los Angeles Rams

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
According to Dave Meltzer, the original plan for Extreme Rules was for Alberto Del Rio to win the World Title and then lose it to Randy Orton on Smackdown two days later. The change was made to Christian either the day before or the morning of the show.
I don't know how real that is, but that's interesting if true.Rose City 'Til I Die

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
In a way I understand it establishes him as THE guy on Smackdown kinda like what Cena is on Raw if that's what they were trying to do, but at the same time why not just wait for atleast the PPV.
I keep hearing/reading that once again Vince or no one with a lot of influence likes Christian as a top main event guy and that he won just to give a special moment on a PPV with Edge.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

In Meltzer's update today, he mentioned how WWE officials are surprised by the amount of backlash from the title change, and the show hasn't even aired yet.Currently Playing:

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
Don't know what they're suprised about.
The people that would know this are...more appreciative of in-ring work. Christian puts on more good matches in a month than Orton has in his entire 9 year WWE career. If you count house shows I assume we can change month to week. Plus as others have said it's just disrespect to Christian who has busted his *** for the company. The real question is if there'll be backlash from everyone else. I'm curious what other wrestlers think of this but the in arena crowds are the ones that'll matter. Will they turn on Orton over this?Comment

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
It's amazing how WWE manages to shoot itself in the foot just after they do something good.
After a great PPV and a decent RAW, they go and do this. Now even as a massive Christian fan, I know that he probably isn't the guy to lead a brand, at least for more than a month or two here or there, but this is just ridiculous. Orton doesn't need the title, he's massively over, and I'm actually enjoying his work after several years of thinking he was boring and overrated.
This title change kills all the momentum Christian had gained, it kills his credibility in the eyes of the arena fans as well, and is just an all-round bad move. What would have been the harm in having him lose the belt to Orton at Over the Limit? At least then he'd get a proper reign, and maybe a good feud with Orton. We may still get that, but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and obviously many many others feel the same.
Orton probably doesn't have anything to do with the hatred directed at WWE right now. At least not in most knowledgeable fans' minds. It's not the fact that he got the belt, it's how he was presented with it that's the major issue here.Last edited by woody2goody; 05-04-2011, 11:18 PM.Supporting Leeds United, Colorado Rockies, Detroit Lions and the Colorado Avalanche!

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
Well no it's not Orton's fault. I suppose he could've declined or suggested an alternative to at least put it off until OtL out of respect for Christian. If he has any. Though he's not exactly honorable. Yes I'm aware it's possible he may have and they just didn't agree.Comment

Again, I don't agree w/ this decision to take the belt off of Christian so quickly, but from the business perspective, Vince obviously feels (and has proof) that Orton will bring in more ratings and $$$ than Christian. At the end of the day that's what's important. I would have been ok w/ this happening at Over the Edge, but the suddenness of it is what rubs ppl the wrong way, which I understand.
And in the long run, this could be the catalyst for a Christian heel turn, which could legitimize him and put him more over as a top level talent on SD.
And you're exactly right when you say we don't know what politics were involved, so it's entirely wrong to blame Orton off the bat. He may just be a company guy and be going along w/ what Vince wants, and we all know how hard it is to go against Vince's will. So after my previous feelings of anger, I'm in a wait and see mode as to how this plays out for Christian and will he be a 'born again Christian' as a legit main event heel on SD, w/ possibly another, longer title run in the future..Comment

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
I dont really have an issue with them putting the belt on anyone really. I mean, its all just a show, and belts are going to change hands. The thing I have an issue with is the lack of storylines. I mean you have John Cena as the champ on Raw, in a fight with the Rock, who doesnt wrestle, and you just had the belt in promos with lawler and all that garbage, then they just have Miz vs John cena, with no real drama between them, just the belt.
Then you just take Orton off Raw and put the belt on him the very next smackdown, wheres the art, or the story in that? what does the WWE have against storylines or drama? I mean they are just throwing straps around it seems for no real reason other than, ok its going to cena now, and orton now.Comment

I know ratings/interest etc is highly important. They are running a business. I think, though, that they are almost playing scared and afraid to build anyone up other than Super Cena and now Super Orton. They cannot make this a two man company with a list of young guys with potential (Barrett, Rhodes, DiBiase, McIntyre, Ziggler, etc). I feel like they are over thinking things a bit.Comment

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
I know you're a Orton h8ter, but ORTON DOESN'T SUCK. I know I'm not going to convince you, but just stating it once and for all. He's over w/ the crowd, has put on decent matches over the past few months w/ Punk, and has had great matches w/ the likes of Cena, Taker, HHH, Benoit, etc. in the past, to name a few.
Again, I don't agree w/ this decision to take the belt off of Christian so quickly, but from the business perspective, Vince obviously feels (and has proof) that Orton will bring in more ratings and $$$ than Christian. Again, I'm upset about this too. But at the end of the day it's more about busness than respect. Not trying to crush people, b/c I'm a huge Christian fan too and hate this as well. But if the reports are true about ADR originally being the one winning at ER and dropping the belt, isn't it good that Christian at least got his moment, even if it was only 2 freakin days?
Over the Edge? It's Over the Limit. Unless we can send him back in time and put him in a Blue Blazer costume.
2 days is equally as stupid for ADR. It would've been his first title win as well so it also would've been pissed on. Not quite as bad because he doesn't have the history Christian has but there would've been significant complaints/backlash there too.
No Vince doesn't have proof Orton would bring in more ratings. Christian hasn't had the chance to be a main eventer, there's nothing to go on. I've quite a few comments from people saying they were going to watch SD again until this happend and now they won't.Comment

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
Orton has had good to great matches with Foley, Edge, Benoit, RVD, Taker, Mysterio, HBK, Cena, Kofi, Sheamus, Miz, and Punk. I wasn't a big fan of his matches with HHH, besides the 3-Way involving Cena. He was very over when he won the World title the first time but turning him face killed it. I can understand not liking the guy but saying Orton sucks more than anyone else in the WWE is an outlandish claim.Comment
