    I think I miss WCW...

Yes, WCW is often put down by people (mainly WWE productions) but it had its moments. I don't want this thread turning into a bashing of WCW, since we all know most of the problems it had.

This thread is a result of me watching my 1998 WCW DVD set (Nitro, Thunder, PPVs), and the great year 1997 was for WCW.

    I miss..

Sting coming into the ring from the ceiling and clearing house on the nWo to end Nitro.

    DDP's popularity rapidly rising.

    The Cruzerweight Division and title.

Chris Jericho throwing hissy fits after matches, then apologizing at the next show and buying David Penzer a new Suit Jacket.

The hype of PPVs (the year long build of Hogan vs Sting!).

Tony Schiavone messing up commentary on a nightly basis.

The three man commentary teams, and having Larry or the Brain analyzing the moves after the match.

    The many camera angles.

The old school Nitro set, and three hours of wrestling on Mondays.

Watching Goldberg dominate before he won the US Title.

    Raven's Flock sitting at ringside.

Booker T and Chris Benoit's best of seven series.

The Television title and how Booker T seemed to put it on the map.

....and yes, I miss Mean Gene

I'm sure i'll think of more later, but who else is a closet WCW fan? What do you guys miss? I know I'm not the only one who used to mark out for Sting.

I can't get enough of watching these WCW DVDs...at the end of 98 I will not be as addicted, since I thought WCW started to go downhill as 1999 started. I wish wrestling was the way it was in the 90s and not now .

Re: I think I miss WCW...

I never watched wrestling until my freshman year of college which was 1997. We used to flip back and forth from one channel to the other...going from NWO/Sting to Austin sitting in the ring on a folding chair drinking beer. What a heck of a place to start watching.

That as well as girls, alcohol, dormrooms, pickup basketball, Goldeneye on the N64, as well as numerous others made it a hell of a freshman year. Hard to believe it's been 10 years!

The sole reason I could not get into WCW on a consistent basis was Tony Schiavone and the rest of that commentary team. To me they were extremely annoying.

I was probably the only fan of Glacier (remember him?) in the world, though.

Your not the only one. I gave up on wrestling after WCW, until TNA came around. I ate, drank, and slept being a WCW fan. No matter how crappy their product was, I enjoyed the wrestling aspect of it. I even stuck with them through the WWF Attitude era when everyone jumped ship. Ordered every PPV. I do miss them. I literally cried the night McMahon bought them. I went to so many events and bought so much merchandise it was rediculous.

I thought I was the only one that missed WCW. Sure the last few years were kinda garbage but they tried to make it work.

          Things I remember.....

-4 Horsemen, of course. Greatest stable in wrestling history, imo.

-How popular The Hollywood Blondes were. They worked perfect together.

-The Skyscrapers seemed upbeatable for about a year until they wrestled The Steiner Brothers. Rick and Scott were suplexing them all over the ring.

-Lance Storm winning 3 titles in a week and renaming all of them.

-Rick Rude showing up on Nitro and also was "seen" on Raw that same night.

-The formation of The NWO. Watching every week to see who will join or get beat up.

-The Viagra On A Pole match with Billy Kidman and Shane Douglas. Sure it was stupid but the commentary had me cracking up!

-The cruiserweights flying all over the ring.

-Chavo and his pet horse, Pepi.

          -The Midnight Rider.

-The WarGames matches. I'm still waiting for WWE to do one. I think they can really pull it off.

          I'll think of some others........

Dude I remember those promos for Glacier before his arrival in WCW had me so psyched up.

Even before the Monday Night Wars, WCW was awesome. It swallowed a load it's last year, but before that, it was great.

The one thing I miss the most about it was the Saturday Night show.

I miss also WCW, having watched the product from the late 80's when it was Crockett NWA was sad seeing it go down the tubes that final year. I always was a WWF/WWE fan, more than WCW, but I still wish they were around.

One reason why I look at TNA, they are like a WCW Lite in some ways. But they need to improve big time.

The Saturday night shows and Clash of Champions back in the late 80's/early 90's are what I miss. I've said this before, but I used to go to my father's on the weekends and every Saturday night I'd run down to the basement to watch WCW. The basement was totally unfinished except for one corner where you opened a door and there was a tv, all of my nintendo/sega stuff, three couches (all hand me downs) and the old coffee table from upstairs. I had all of my wrestling figures set up down there (old WWF rubber ones and some of the small WCW ones) and it was like magic every week.

I miss watching WCW Saturday night with my brother and chipping the paint off of Classie Freddie Blassie's face.

I can't even watch wrestling anymore. I know everything that's going on, but I just don't care.

I remember every Saturday at 5:05pm when I was a teenager, I would grab my dinner as it was dinner time and take my plate to my bedroom to watch WCW Saturday Night. As Tony S. & Dusty Rhodes would call it, this was the "Flagship".

I really miss Clash of the Champions.........even more, I wish that WWE would have brought back PPV's like StarrCade, SuperBrawl, and even Fall Brawl to replace the some of the stupid names they have now.

Miss everything that you all have listed. And 97-98 was the greatest days in the WCW. All different angles, and the buildups were incredible.

I LOVED the 100 Stings coming down to the ring. Then finally it panned to the real one. LOL... they even had midget Stings.

Re: I think I miss WCW...

I feel guilty for wanting WWF to bury WCW. The Monday Night Wars got me back into watching wrestling. At the time I preferred WWF, even though I'd switch back and forth during the night. Once WCW got too stupid (Chucky, what's his name movie actors winning the title, etc) I iwshed they'd just go away. Now I wish they had won the wars. I KNOW how this way turned out, but maybe it would have been better had WWF gone belly up instead.

Today, the WWE seems to be trying it's hardest to destroy much of what I enjoyed about wrestling. TNA is sooooo close to having that magic for me, but every time I think they've got it, they pull out an electified-cage-blindfolded-former NFL star-chickenwing match to ruin it. At times TNA has that old school NWA/AWA feel to it. It's strange, because at the same time they can feel old school, they still feel fresh with all of the innovative moves and action going on.
