That's the problem some people had with WCW. Their claim was that WCW didn't develop enough mid-carders into main-eventers. What they don't realize is that the WCW had so much talent to begin with, that they didn't need to develop new guys. They left them with wrestlers with the same sort of size and ability with the US Title and the TV Title.

You are wrong. WCW not developing their mid-card talent into main eventers is EXACTLY the reason they went out of business. Guys like Hogan, Hall and Nash, Goldberg, DDP, Sting....they were okay, but the fans got tired of watching the exact same people ALLLLL the time. Not developing guys like Jericho, E. Guerrero, Benoit (I know......a little early, but it's still a fact, sorry) and others like that into big parts of the main event picture was a huge huge mistake. Fans got tired of watching Hogan time after time and went to Raw and Stone Cold Steve Austin and other main eventers who could actually put on a decent match.....then the WCW mid-carders started jumping ship..and next thing you know, WCW has old men in the main event who couldn't do anything and the rest of the card was full of younger wrestlers who hadn't been developed enough and the fans didn't care about......WCW didn't try and push younger talent until it was WAYYYYYY too late.......that's why when Benoit won the WCW world title, he didn't even like it and jumped ship just after.......the NWO really did kill WCW by not sharing the spotlight with anyone else.Comment

The second Spin the Wheel Make the Deal match was at Halloween Havoc '93. Cactus Jack vs. Vader. It ended up being a Texas Death Match, and a very good one at that.xbl gamertag: jiggidyjames72Comment

Re: I think I miss WCW...
I thought Benoit left WCW because Kevin Sullivan joined the booking team after he won the belt.Comment

Re: I think I miss WCW...
Sullivan was already on the booking for a brief period, maybe a week. It was mostly his decision to put the strap on Benoit, but him and everyone else knew what was up. He was only getting it so he, Eddie, Saturn, Malenko and believe it or not Shane Douglas, wouldn't leave for WWE. They were fed up by then.xbl gamertag: jiggidyjames72Comment

Re: I think I miss WCW...
I think Big Evil and kowboy koop have good points and there's some truth to both statements. Remember WCW was so huge at one point that Nitro went from 2 hrs to 3! They had a lot of depth and great undercard/midcard talent. The working relationship with um I think NJPW was highly profitable as well as bringing in the mexican wrestlers. It's something that Vince should try to do but since those guys don't speak english and don't look all roided out it's not likely.
Kowboy Koop is right tho, at some point some of the midcard guys should've been elevated. DDP became a quasi main event guy for a while, same thing with Buff Bagwell. I also seem to recall that when the radicalz left for WWE that Benoit was going to get the belt at WCW. So it seemed like they were going to get a run on top for a while. (except for Saturn) The thing is these guys would get a taste of main event status and get slapped down by the big name guys or by the booking comittee so it was never a full comittment.
Other guys who got elevated or had a taste of it: Booker T, Jericho Konnan, Eddie Guerrero etc etc.
So it's not like they NEVER elevated guys they just didn't do it right.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: I think I miss WCW...
Yes, it's not that they never did it, they just did it WAYYYYY too late...by the time they did it, most fans had jumped to Raw to watch HHH, SCSA, The Rock, and all those guys.......and even when they did push them, like you said, they would just get pushed right out of the spotlight by the older guys anyways....so yeah, too little, and way way way too late.Comment

Re: I think I miss WCW...
Like I said however.....even if talented, lower guys didn't get pushed in the WCW, they could go to the WWF and still have the experience, popularity, and skill that they developed in WCW and vice versa. You didn't have to force feed young guys along....you could bring them in slowly and let still have a solid midcarders with guys who've already been on the big stage."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

I would LOVE to see a Wargames boxset. I doubt WWE ever releases such a thing unless WWE were going to revive the gimmick and release a set to coincide with it.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
