    ***The Ric Flair Appreciation Thread***

No complaining, no bitching, no rants about other wrestlers. Just appreciation. Post videos, memories, anything positive.

I think it set in today. Only five months left in a career that's spanned 35 years, most of that time as THE man. Even as a WWF fan in the '80s, I knew there wasn't a better guy in the ring then him. His selling made everything seem real. And just think that it could have all ended with him getting his head squashed by Khali.

I don't think there will ever be a wrestler to come along that cut a better promo. His throwaway Coliseum Video interviews from the first time he was supposedly washed up are even legendary.

I can't add much more to that except to say that even though I became a huge Ric Flair fan late in his career I think it's best to be a fan at some point then never at all. I especially loved his promos back in the World Championship Wrestling on TBS days. The man was so cocky and sure of himself that you can't help but admire him a bit.

He was a helluva wrestler as well. I mean can you name a wrestler that had a prime to his career that lasted as long as Flair? ('78 to about '95) He had matches with great wrestlers and not so great wrestlers but in his prime he could carry the crappy guys to 5 star matches. I'm gonna miss him when he's gone. Thank goodness I can still get a lot of him on youtube and on WWE 24/7.

It saddens me to see Flair retiring in less than 5 months. I have seen his matches dating back to the early 80's all the way to present day. As much as it broke my heart the last few years not himself in the ring I think that this is going to be great getting the royal treatment on the way out.

      1 more World Title please.

Ric Flair seems to have ironed out his problems with WWE as he's signed a new three year contract that will see him remain a full-time company employee after his retirement from the ring (expected to be at Wrestlemania 24).

My grandfather when he was still alive, always watched the NWA when I was a kid. So I grew up watching guys like Flair and Bockwinkle duke it out on a regular basis. Anytime I was over there watching the Four Horsemen in their glory days it was a pretty special bonding period for me personally. Anytime I see Ric Flair today I remember those times as a kid. So with that said I'd love to see ol Natch get one more run with the gold.

I have the utmost respect for what he has done for the industry. He definately deserves to go out in a blaze of glory. WOOOOOOO!

It will be a travesty of justice if he doesn't get a short title run before he retires. I know he's 58 and has nowhere near the in ring ability he had the last time he was the champion, but if a 5 foot tall 130 pound Mexican midget in a mask can be the world champion, why not Ric Flair one more time? And when he gets this title run, get rid of the God awful John Cena bling-bling belt, and give The Man an old school World Title Belt so his last championship run can be done with a little dignity.

I would also like to see Flair have one last shot with the Gold. I'd love to see him win the title and bring out the REAL Big Goldie. I hear Flair actually has the Big Gold Belt in his home.

From what I understand, when a wrestler wins a title belt, he can buy the replica. I know Flair has replicas of all the belts he's won.

I've seen Flair live many times, probably around 20 or so. My most memorable moment seeing him in person was, the night he stripped down to his boxers and handcuffed himself to the ropes at the Baltimore Arena, the night after Starrcade demanding Bischoff in the ring, Bischoff tries to escape later that night in a limo and the Horsemen were waiting for him. Flair then got his revenge. I remember sitting in the section where Flair threw his Rolex watch, landed about 8 rows in front of me. That was one of the most hilarious moments I've ever seen.

This is a little different, though.

Back in the day, going waaaaay back, when you won the NWA title you had to put down a $25k security deposit. I guess they didn't want guys running off with the title or something, who knows. When Flair came to WWE the first time in '91, he kept the NWA belt. Then he brought it on WWF TV with that whole "Real World's Champion" angle. There was some court stuff and eventually Flair (and WWF) was barred from using the belt on TV. But Flair always claimed the NWA never gave him back his deposit. Since he was always around the title, he paid them once in the '80s and let them keep it. Why write a check every other month?

In the end, they never gave him his money back (probably because even back then the NWA had no money) so he kept the original Big Gold Belt. WCW and NWA said "screw it" and made a new one. The belt that Batista wears is like the third or fourth version of the belt. Flair still has the original.

You're exactly right about the replica thing.

And that video you posted never gets old. Thanks!

That was only what... 7 or 8 years ago. Man, he's aged alot in the past few years. Arn Anderson and Chris Benoit (before he died of course) look about the same now as they did then. Flair almost looks like a different person now. Maybe it's just how thin his hair has gotten. But even his face looks so much older now.

And whatever happened to the move he did where he'd get thrown into the corner, flip over the top turnbuckle, land on the apron, run to the other turnbuckle, climb it, then get bodyslammed off the top rope. I used to love seeing him do that. Guess he's just too old to pull that of anymore.

Yeah Flair has really aged in the last 10 years or so. I think the fast living lifestyle finally came back to bite him in the arse.

BTW best Flair moment in WWF/E? Winning the Royal Rumble. I remember Heenan cheering him on and then the promo after Flair won it was just GOLD!
