Just watching Vol 2 of the Best of Nitro. Some real horrible booking and the same ol same ol from the big matches but there is no denying the energy in the crowd. Same goes during those peak years during the WWF. Man wrestling was so fun then.

Is it better than volume 1? I think the first best of nitro sucked b/c they left out so much.

I liked it more because it included so many things that I a) didn't remember or b) had never seen. Stuff like Sting joining the Wolfpack and some Cruiserweight stuff. We laugh at the nWo and Wolfpack stuff now but watching WCW from '98 the crowd was going absolutely nuts whenever either faction came out. They really did wipe the floor with the WCW guys in terms of fans going crazy.

Also worth noting is that damn near every Nitro looks completely sold out. I sold those shows like gangbusters and while I'm sure they will giving out free tickets they must have made some serious gate money.

Oh there was nothing in wrestling touching the popularity of the nWo back then, and that's from a WWE fan.

The thing that killed the nWo was the whole faction-izing of it. lWo, nWo 2k, black and white, black and red and so forth. At the end, if you WEREN'T in some variant of the nWo you were in the minority.

You are definitely right there. What the WWF later realized when they bought the WCW brand and tried to reintroduce it was that everyone knew WCW sucked because WCW themselves had been telling people that for years.

I was a WCW guy for a while simply b/c of nWo, cruiserweights, and sting.

Seeing as how 2 of the 3 are on that DVD, I'll be picking it up. Watching that old WCW stuff always makes me miss Scott Hall. Dude had world champion written all over him, IMO.

Scott Hall was the only one consistently putting the WCW guys over during the whole nWo run. Hell I guess somebody had too.

Vol 2 of Best of Nitro has nearly as much Sting as Hogan.

They tried streamlining the nWo with the finger poke, but it was just the same old ish. The Wolpac was pretty hot at the time, but Macho Man and Sting left which was to why they had to merge the nWo.

Yeah, but all things considered... I think the Fingerpoke is an overblown moment in time for WCW. It's just easy to point to it and say "OMG SO BAD." It's a perfectly legitimate thing for a heel team to do - I just don't like how much press that singular moment in time gets, compared to everything else that truly was wrong.

It didn't help that on the same night WWF did this

People said 'finally something new' while WCW was giving the same ol same ol.

Was never a big mankind fan. But that was definitely a WWF>WCW move for me.

I couldn't for one instance fathom why Nash would just hand over the belt. It didn't make sense. Especially if that's supposed to be the big prize, ya know?

It's the nWo. Why would they care about WCW titles when they win it and do whatever they want with it - they're saying they are above WCW, and until someone proves them wrong they are correct in that assumption.

That was supposed to be leading to an angle/match with Goldberg taking the belt back and then he got injured, I believe.

That just doesn't make sense to me. It didn't then or now. So if the point is to just run WCW, why even have title matches? I agree in that the blame it gets is a little overblown. But that, to me, was an incredibly dumb *** move.

Case in point, HHH kicking Orton out of evolution when he got the belt.

On Raw, there was a triple threat match for the IC title between HHH/Rock/XPac. XPac and HHH were cool at first and then started going after it once they "realized" only one could win.

Now I go to WCW and see these fools playing around w/ their main belt. The television title had better matches than the world title.
