Re: Punk vs Cena made me realize something

As someone else stated, it's really like comparing apples and oranges.

For an extreme pro wrestling fan, last night was one of the greatest wrestling moments of all-time. Great storyline, great match, great crowd, and great finish. That's Vince trying to captivate the die hard fan's interest.

To the casual/mainstream fan, last night means nothing. I bet a large chunk of the "fans" that will be brought in by Dwayne's Mania appearance will never even have watched a CM Punk match before(well, outside of maybe this past Wrestlemania). They have no attachment to Punk or this current storyline.

Wrestlemania is about mainstream hype and big buys. Rock will bring that. Just look at this forum, there's a couple guys who only post when The Rock insults John Cena via <s>satillite</s> Twitter/YouTube. That's the casual fan Vince is looking for at Wrestlemania.

For me, last night's MITB may have been my favorite PPV of all-time. But I'm still not doubting that Rock vs. Cena in Miami will be fun.

Rock/Hogan as just a match was terrible. The atmosphere and the crowd completely turning on Rock was what made it memorable.

Exactly, which still means it was a good match if you take everything into account. But if you remove the venue and crowd then it would be garbage.

Cant really do this though, thats just.........pro wrestling LOL

All that stuff combined creates a match

Wrestling never has and never will be purely about technical wrestling as the IWC would have some believe.....its about putting on a show.......

and when did The Rock become such a horrible worker?, the guy has more than carried a match or two in his career.....youd think his ringwork was Eugene-esque or something....

No that's what I'm saying. I was making your point for you I think since I felt like the guy I was responding to was saying the match would be bad if removing elements.

Re: Punk vs Cena made me realize something

There are some good points in this thread. Come to think of it as a kid the WM matches seemed huge but in retrospect:

Hogan/Mr. T vs Piper/Orton had great hype and crowd, but was awful

              Hogan Bundy - Ugh

Hogan Andre - It had something special, but that was for the story.

The last three years the UT matches have helped steal the show.

Perhaps my rose colored glass memories of WM as a kid are making my expectations too high PLUS I was pissed when I paid so much for this year's WM only to feel like my money was used to set up next years WM.

You know come Rumble timeframe, the buildup will really put in high gear for Rock/Cena. Right now it's just mentioned here and there, but it's still 9 months away, can't hype it too much already or people will get sick of it.

The match will have a monster build up and most of us will be just as excited for it, especially if the writing stays the same as it's been the last few weeks.
