Commentary isn't something a non fan can do. It's not like competing where someone who is real athletic could still do the moves in the ring and learn stuff like we've seen from Bianca, Tiffany and others.

Commentary needs to be done by someone who knows and loves wrestling. That's why Pat has done so well, they didn't just get him because he's over the top and a character, he loves wrestling too.

So if Joe is at least a fan and knows the current product and seems like he's been good on college football commentary then that's something in his favour. Although I would've had him in NXT first to try him out before seeing what he's like on the main roster.

He's been the voice on Fight Night video games as well. I'm guessing he's worked with Lee Fitting before too. So at least what I've heard so far seems good.
I remember dude from the old EA boxing titles, but if he's a fan and can correctly call moves that will help. Also, being able to call stuff, letting Barrett and Grave 'narrate' so to speak.

There’s that weird insecurity wrestling fans have. ‘They can’t be good unless they were already a fan like us!”’

Being a fan will save him some time in getting up to speed but as for the job itself? You really need to be able to tell stories in the middle of the action, and we know from calling boxing and football that Tessitore can do that. We also know from Holey Moley that he doesn’t take himself too seriously on-screen. On paper, he’s a good fit. Hopefully it works out.

Thinking you have to be a fan first is how we wind up with guys like Matt Striker and Excalibur.

There's being a fan and then being an internet fan.

Guys like striker and Excalibur are more like an internet fan.

But it definitely does help to know the product to do the job. Look at the revolving door of commentators the past few years simply because they got guys who didn't know the product. Adnan for instance is a good sports host, but he's not a fan and wasn't good.

You can tell from watching and listening if the person who is calling the action is invested in it and having fun vs who is just talking/narrating and doing a job. If you're not excited about what you're calling, it comes off on tv and that makes the fans not as excited either.

People don’t know Tessitore already? Dude is fantastic. He gets the entertainment side of broadcasting. I’m psyched and I think he’ll be great!

Obviously Undertakers steak ending will be a topic forever discussed in wrestling, but one take I haven't thought of before is what if his streak ended in a tag match (with him being pinned)?

Would people have felt the same way as they did when Lesnar broke it? Would they feel it cheapens the win/streak ending because it's a tag (even if he's the one who got pinned)?

The scenario I saw someone mention is if the shield faced the brothers of destruction.

Like what if it's a tornado tag/no dq. We have all 3 members of the shield pin Undertaker at once. It's no one man who ended the streak, but all 3 can now forever brag they broke the streak.

I don't watch college football or ESPN so I had no idea who he is. Same with most non US fans too.

But if he is as good as people who watch him call stuff say he is then let's hope he is good.

I always wondered this with the Undertaker & Nathan Jones vs. Big Show & A-Train match, lol.

                Imagine that decades later.

"Did you know the Undertaker was a perfect 10-0 at Wrestlemania before losing at Wrestlemania 19 thanks to the Big Show pinning Nathan Jones in the tag match."

And everyone wondering what if they made his undefeated streak a thing.

Speaking of Nathan Jones, don't know if it's Undertaker or probably more likely Vince, but the 00s scouting for big men/monsters was horrible when you see all the people Undertaker was invovled with from Jones to Morgan to Kozlov to Khali and others. He tried putting guys over and those guys just sucked and failed miserably.

Stephanie Vaquer is supposedly heading to WWE.

Her contract with CMLL/NJPW is done, but I'm surprised because she literally just appeared for AEW in that title vs title match vs Mercedes.

NXT could soon have Giulia vs Vaquer vs Roxanne. Guess Roxanne should've been careful for what she asked for. But what a crazy reign that could be opponent wise in hindsight. Grace from TNA, Giulia who came over from New Japan/Stardom and Vaquer who came over from New Japan/CMLL. That's the real Forbidden Door title reign.

I think wrestling fans are rightly wary of non-wrestling entities getting involved, exerting influence, etc.

Wrestling was a very insular industry during the biggest peaks of its history. It lended itself to doing what needs to be done, writing stories and gimmicks and **** that are "only understood" within the context of wrestling, etc.

Then the company goes public and all that, starts being beholden to outside crap which leads to stories like Muhammad Hassan getting stomped out because of "outrage" and ****, and everything got watered down and cautious for a long while there. And catering to "outside world" focusing more on **** like Lesnar and Goldberg and whatever other crap than relying on your actual stars.

It's only now where things are recovering a bit of being a little more distinct but you still have lots of outside influence on how things go with Fox garbage censoring crowds and ruining moments, USA cutting off returns, and I'm sure a bunch of examples I'm forgetting as I write this post somewhat swiftly.

Nah, there's stuff only wrestling people get the purpose of. Doesn't mean wrestling people are infallible as they clearly are not. I'm just taking industry people over someone who's worked on some show or movie a thousand times out of a thousand. Hopefully Tessitore knows how to call wrestling. It's much, much, much different than calling other stuff. All those other loser announcers were garbage. Adnan Virk, ranallo, whoever else.

August could be a good month for returns.

Charlotte was listed as being out for 9 months back in December and we all know how WWE often exaggerates injury timelines (Orton recently and HHH in 01 are only times that stand out to me as times that notable people were out much longer than WWE said).

So post Summerslam could we perhaps see Charlotte and Alexa back? Too bad Andrade is on SD, would've preferred Charlotte on Raw. Alexa should also go to Raw, the women's roster there could use some bigger names.

WWE released new live events through December.... but didn't announce a Survivor Series location. Smackdown before what should be Survivor Series is in Utah and the RAW after is in Arizona. Guessing LA gets Survivor Series?

Sounds like Flairs deal in AEW could be done (it was really just a sponsorship with the energy drink that paid for it and he was around just for Stings retirement).

I wonder if we get an Evolution HOF eventually, and does Cena break Flairs record with Flair in attendance? No doubt WWE wants to have their LeBron/Kareem moment too.

They could even bill it at as Cenas final world title match. Either he wins and breaks the record or loses and won't challenge for a world title again.

Usually it would be in the same city.

Edit-After looking at the schedule I noticed there's no SD on the 29th. Highly doubt Utah would be a double taping.

So November 30th could be Survivor Series? Raw before is Arizona, Raw after is in Everett Washington. So they're definitely staying on the west coast for a reason.

I read the Intuit Dome is a rumored SS location. The arena opens August 15th for Bruno Mars. WWE surely will announce Smackdown and Survivor Series there. Wonder if they're waiting until closer to the 15th to announce it to take advantage of all the media hype around the new arena? Announcing the location right before Summerslam would make sense.
