Can anyone tell me what happened to the tournament? If it still happens when?

Might be one this year in November. The last 3 were every 2 years and the last was in 2010.

If it happens it'll probably be on TV instead of PPV.

Rumor I heard was they were planning on having it earlier this year and were planning on pushing Wade Barrett. With his broken arm it got pushed back. I'll be looking for it pretty soon once he returns, but we'll see if they have decided to go a different direction.

I wouldn't mind that if it happens I think he deserves the shot. But the KOTR not being held every year is one of the problems wit wrestling today. The greats had to go through a sort of wrestling farm system, during which time the fans got to see and know them. KOTR and the IC were stepping stones to becoming WWE champ

I wouldn't mind that if it happens I think he deserves the shot. But the KOTR not being held every year is one of the problems wit wrestling today. The greats had to go through a sort of wrestling farm system, during which time the fans got to see and know them. KOTR and the IC were stepping stones to becoming WWE champ

Tell that to Owen (who wasn't seeing the benefits through his death), King Mabel/Viscera, Shamrock, and Billy Gunn. I like that for Brock, they gave the winner a title shot at Summerslam. Made Summerslam pretty big that year. One of the few times I've ordered it.

I was actually talking about this with my friend the other day. Since they wanted to ditch MitB as a PPV, they should replace it with KotR, with the winner earning a title shot at Summerslam. They can pick which title.

This also allows MitB to become a yearly match at Wrestlemania, with the winner having 1 year to cash in. It makes for a perfect set up, two ways to earn a auto title shot (outside of Royal Rumble).

Oh yea! He did. So he at least got a shot. Never saw a title reign. He had some main event runs there with the Undertaker as well that year. That didn't last. Shamrock got into the main event a bit as well, but it never panned out.

Shamrock was a pretty big player in featured angles back in the day.

This would make a better PPV than Overdrive and Cyber Sunday. It already has built in undercard matches and you can always defened a couple of titles to set up future story angles.

Right now, with few exceptions, MITB basically serves the same purpose.

I don't get why people clamor for KOTR. Maybe because I never was that big a fan of the format itself, though the coronation did lead to some good storylines w/ King Booker and King Angle. But the tourney itself tends to be predictable at times since usually it's going to be a heel vs face in the finals.

It's funny how people complain about today's PPVs being gimmicked, slapped together matches with no real strong storylines, yet want a PPV that's full of gimmicked, slapped together matches with no real strong storylines to return.

I don't have anything to add other than mentioning that the King Mabel/Diesel match for the WWF Championship was the absolute worst main event of a "Big Four" PPV ever. Yes, even worse than Bam Bam Bigelow/Lawrence Taylor.

That match was a disaster.

I don't really like tournaments anymore. Unless it's with literally only the top guns or something, it's just TOO damn structured and obvious.
