    Re: What wrong with wrestling

I believe they have several talented wrestlers but there needs to be some characters.
Fandango is an example of one of the few that they have tried to create.
3MB, for as much as they suck can be entertaining to see get beat up.

It feels like if I was a kid watching this stuff, they all kind of seem the same except for some different abilities.
A wrestler like Kane was even watered down from what he should be like.

Where are the characters like Earthquake, Diesel, and Yokozuna. Very unique and interesting styles in and out of the ring.

      truth hurts doesn't it...

Wrestling today is missing gimmicks. It's just a bunch of normal guys wrestling under a different name. They seriously need some characters...that in itself would make everything interesting and open up storyline possibilities.

Wrestling is suppose to be superhereos fighting it out...not some everyday people having a friendly match.

Agreed. I think there needs to be a solid balance. Even in the highly loved attitude era, there were still gimmicks.....The Godfather, Undertaker(possibly the only man to have the same gimmick his entire run?), Mankind(before he got all socko), Kane(although current Kane gimmick is great), etc etc...and it worked. Today, it seems the superstars with any sort of gimmick get used as jobbers or flat out forgotten about...Los Matadores, 3MB, etc

          What wrong with wrestling?

          - writers that are void of wrestling knowledge, story telling methods & history
          - piss poor booking
          - John Cena
          - social media (yeah i said it)
          - mismanagement of talent
          - John Cena
          - good WRESTLERS with bad match psychology
          - wrestlers' overness being predetermined
          - John Cena
          - no follow through on high potential angles
          - breaking of the fourth wall (killing the illusion of realism)
          - John Cena
          - The Miz
          - the devaluing of the IC, US & tag championships
          - and lastly... John Cena

I was an absolute wrestling geek from 84-06. I absolutley loved it, for almost a decade my week began and ended on Monday nights. Once it went PG and they "evolved" and all that other nonsense I just quit, cold turkey. To me the WWE/F was always about pushing the envelope, etc. But once Benoit screwed it all up and they went "family friendly" i was out.
All that being said, and there is so much more I could say, I believe what is truly wrong with wrestling today is the talent themselves. Gone are the days of living in cars, spending 10 years traveling with guys, knowing them inside and out, and perfecting their craft. Now its take a class, do some backyard wrestling, go on youtube, get a development deal, go on raw, within a year your a "star". THeres a reason people pop for guys that show up 5-10 years after they were relevant. IF CM punk went away today and showed up 3 years later, I think only a small fraction of people would even care.

                Re: What wrong with wrestling

The problem is that the illusion is gone. The matches are meaningless. Its too much about the fans putting you over...if that was the case...Ric Flair would have NEVER been champ...but because we hated flair...we would root for Dusty, Sting, Ron Garvin, Ron Simmons to beat him.

I was never a fan of how the WWE ran their programming with the except of the Rock and Stone cold era...only because they were so awesome they could not be held back by bad writing or mediocre performers (looking at you HHH). But imo even the WCW at its David Arquette low point was far more entertaining to me than the WWE now....ok...that maybe a stretch.

But I would say...that the David Arquette era feels like the current era of wrestling...its like a big gag or cartoon.

It should be like a magic act...when I see Chris Angel levitating...I realize that he can't fly and its some sort of trick...BUT...in the moment part of me thinks its real. Wrestling is missing that. Now not only do we know that its NOT real...but we know how the magic is done...Imagine if Angell showed you how he did his trick as he was doing it...that would REALLY SUCK...so does WWE
