I actually bet they keep Owen's. Over the Edge is tricky because they absolutely couldn't not edit that. You can't show a man falling to his death. You just can't, that'd be sick. Showing subsequent stuff on that show mentioning him would be weird at that point too. It's weird to watch as is, because the crowd is very much not invested after that point. But his tribute show was a celebration. That should be a part of the network, as it's one of the stand out episodes of Raw.

Owen's fall/fallout from that wasn't even aired live. It happened during a promo video.

Yeah I was going to say because the only thing I've seen that's out there is on the night it happened, the camera is panned away towards the crowd and Jim Ross speaking about what just happened.

Watching PPVs in order, it's sad/weird how Owen and Pillman are there right in the middle of storylines and then just disappear like they were never there.

The only video of it (since this is during the time of camcorders which weren't allowed in the arena) is in WWE's vault, locked up safe and sound.

You think they kept that? I would imagine they'd destroy any footage of something like that just to avoid further pissing off his wife or Bret or anybody else. Plus, there'd be no real reason to keep it anyway since they'll never air it or put it out anyway.

Kevin Kelly wrote this just over a year ago. It was part of a longer article, but I'll quote the relevant part.

                4. His death occurred at an event. – Sadly, one of the reasons why Owen Hart remains so fresh in our minds is because he died at a televised event, not in a hotel room. He’s not the only wrestler who died at a show but it sticks with us when we think about that fateful night in Kansas City. I still think about the master tapes on the shelf at the WWE video library inside the walls of the TV studio. Instructions never to destroy, view or duplicate.

Wow. Don't get the point in keeping that. Seems like trouble waiting to happen.

They probably have to keep it as evidence for anything legal-wise that could still stem from that incident.

The case closed years ago. I can't see how it would be needed in court again.

If I were them, I'd keep it as well. If anything, just because that's how I am. Good or bad, history shouldn't be wiped out (and when it comes to videos/things like this being part of a library, I'm really a completionist/perfectionist.)

It wouldn't do any good to get rid of it. It wouldn't do any good to release it. I can say I'd watch it if it ever did get released, though. Mainly because I'm a sucker and my curiosity would easily get the better of me.

I mean, I get what you're saying about history, but my thinking is that it's not like they don't have video of the event and if they got rid of it, they'd never have footage of Over the Edge '99 again. Just seems like the trouble that would get caused by someone possibly getting their hands on it and releasing it or showing it isn't really worth it.

I'm sure it's locked up to where you cant get to it unless your name is Vincent K McMahon. Also, I bet he has watched it.
