It also needed to be Hogan to further establish it was a WWF vs WCW thing as they mentioned in the episode. It would have been fine with Sting, but it wouldn't have worked as well I don't believe.

It wouldn't have worked with Sting. I forget if it was Hall or Nash but one of them said "no offense to Sting but it wouldn't have worked". Having a WCW guy as your leader doesn't portray it to be WWF vs. WCW which is how it initially came across.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Y'all are tripping thinking Sting could've somehow made nWo work. Sting was perfect for what he was in the role. I don't think think Hogan or Sting could've been replaced in their respective roles during that time.

Nope. Sting wouldn't have worked.
Well, it might have worked but not in the way we know the nWo and it never would have been near as big.
Regardless of what you personally think of him, Hogan is Hogan. There has never been another name in his stratosphere in the industry. Him turning heel after being the quintessential good guy for so long... Mind blowing.
He went from getting John Cena ironic boos to literally getting **** thrown at him in the ring because people were so pissed off at that point.badComment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
So after watching the first 3 episodes of The Monday Night War, I feel like they gave the cliff notes on the entire period. First episode is about the debut of Monday Nitro and there's competition. 2nd episode is about Hogan turning, nWo forming, and WCW taking over. 3rd episode is about WWE responds with the attitude era and multiple times they say that the attitude era helped WWE take over again and is what killed WCW.
I'm really curious to how they are going to stretch this out over 17 more episodes. Maybe they will spend entire episodes devoted to particular storylines or feuds even though these episodes have given a gist of the major ones already.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
One thing this series drives home to me is that we'll never see anything the likes of the Attitude Era or the Monday Night Wars ever again. Our culture has changed so much to the point that anything that smells of controversy gets snuffed out ASAP. I really wish I had cherished this era of wrestling/sports entertainment more back then because I now realize it's a Golden Age that will never be duplicated ever again for numerous reasons.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Highlight of the show was Vince doing a Ted Turner impression, saying, "You guys are only beating us because you're showing more of the tit"Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
I literally laughed out loud when Vince did his Ted Turner impression there. Just the way he said "more of the tit" LOLMember of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
You know what else I noticed watching yesterday's episode. There were soooooo many more signs back then as compared to now. There was one scene of Austin climbing the ropes during his entrance and you almost couldn't actually see the people in the crowd because of the walls of signs they were holding up.
