I was thinking about this the other day when I was re-watching WWF in 1999. Maybe it was just me, but I could sense Taker was over the storyline once Vince was revealed as the Greater Power. I remember the look of disdain (or just really in character?) when The Corporate Ministry (including the Mean Street Posse in their sweater vests) embraced the Boss Man the night of the reveal.

Here's the Undertaker, a guy that slit his wrist (for real?) and made Mideon drink his blood, cut open Mideon's chest, hung the Boss Man from a cell, etc., etc., is now in the ring with a bunch of grown men having a group hug. Lol.

It was cool to see Taker's ABA persona come out before he left in 99.

I wonder if the Unholy Alliance (and then the subsequent storyline about Big Show's father and Big Boss Man would've ended in a Big Show vs. Taker WM 2000 match, if Taker hadn't gotten hurt.

Watching No Mercy 99.

Man, the Godfather's "ho train" was so over, but we aren't allowed to have that kind of fun on WWE anymore.

Holy hell, Ivory. No wonder Rock tried to get with her IRL.

Mae Young taking bumps that Brock Lesnar won't in 2017 lol.

I have no memory of The Hardys being in The Brood. Legendary ladder match tho.

Two dick grabbing spots in one PPV, and somehow Joey Ryan wasn't involved. Good ole 1999 WWE.

Man I was so pissed back in the day that we didn't get more of them on the same side in the Corporation. Guess the hate ran so deep the rule was they had to be opposite alignments nearly at all times.

That was great. Austin whooping Tazz in the Alliance is tops though. Austin had that *** whooping and talking in rhythm of his swings down perfect. Would have thought that man had been raised by a black family with the whooping he was laying out there. Gave me flashbacks to a young Mack getting into **** and pops getting told when he got home from work lol

As I've understood the situation, HBK and Hunter did everything in their power to sabotage Rock and keep him held down beneath Hunter. According to Bruce Pritchard it went both ways as far as the animosity between the two. Them coming up through the company basically at the same time had a hand in the competitive rivalry they had, but Hunter's association with Shawn had a hand as well. Rock already hated Shawn for some **** he said and did when he worked for a bit in the promotion his grandmother was running. Add in Shawn and H targeting Rock because Bret had taken a liking to him and it just got worse and worse along the way.

Pritchard mentioned a story where things were so bad between the two that Rock would go out during interviews and read what was wrote and stay on script, but then Triple H would get out there and rip him to pieces going off script and Rock was pissed about it. So Bruce told him it's live tv, if you can handle getting your *** chewed out (by Vince I would assume) and if it's good then go at him too. So they'd go out there sparring with each other going completely off script taking shots at each other. There's of course the time Shawn and Hunter tried to get Vince to pull Rock from the Wrestlemania 15 main event in favor of Hunter. Shawn taking that shot at Rock "stealing Hunter's spotlight" when he kicked Booker T out of the nWo and on and on. Rock isn't a dick like Shawn and Hunter so he isn't as public about his dislike, but all stories and accounts from people around during their run attest to the very real tension between the two over the years.
