    Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread

Road to WMX8 was such a crazy one. Not even at No Way Out yet and the build for the NWO is funny in hindsight knowing what we know now about the politicking (I'm sure it was known back then, but not by as much of the audience). Flair basically begging Vince not to bring them in, but it sounded more like he was saying that because he knew what those guys could do behind the scenes. They even showed the fingerpoke of doom on the "NWO highlight reel"!

And during this same time, we have HHH/Stephanie renewing their wedding vows. Say what you want about "sports entertainment" and the over the top soap opera nature of stuff, but many times that's what makes watching the shows that much more fun than just wrestling.

That whole night was crazy. Them getting ready to renew their vows, HHH finding out Stephanie isn't pregnant, and the crowd and tv audience all know going into this segment that HHH knows, but Vince and Stephanie don't know he knows.

Such a surreal moment having the NWO in the WWF. Even if that run only lasted a month with those 3, it was still cool to see them.

And then this promo with Hogan/Rock, while Hogan-Austin would've been insane too, they just had to do Hogan-Rock. If Austin stayed maybe we could've gotten Austin-Hogan down the road?

Funny thing, Hogan trying to combat the WHAT chants and failed.

      Fans: WHA..
      Hogan: 'cha gonna do?

Never realized how much Chicago loved Hogan too. I guess if WM was in any "smark" city, he would've gotten the type of reaction he got in Toronto?

And ontop of that, we also got this just minutes later! The ultimate "holy *** moment"

        Raw before WM18:
One of the overlooked parts of the "old days" is its lack of PPV match announcements.

Feels like half the card got announce 6 days before the actual PPV, which for a Wrestlemania seems worse than other PPVs they've done that for during this era.

Although the entire PPV revolved around the NWO feuds anyways. Never realized how weak the HHH-Jericho build was. It was 90% HHH vs Steph and Jericho as the Undisputed champ happened to be there.

And one of the moments which makes lots more sense now, a story with Steph and HHH fighting over their dog, and Steph hated the dog and there was a moment the dog made a mess all over her locker room floor and the camera zooms right in on the dog poop for what felt like 10 seconds. Guess we know why Vince loved the poop stuff on tv. And all night they kept cutting to scenes from HQ with an emergency board meeting. That entire board of directors seemed exactly how I pictured them.

At the same time, I wonder how WM would've played out if Nash could compete. I think it was supposed to be HHH vs Nash even as of No Way Out (HHH lost the match to Angle which would've set up HHH vs Nash if they wanted, and US hero Kurt Angle vs Canadian Jericho in Toronto for the title). Could the Raw main event before have been HHH,Rock,Austin vs the NWO?!

Speaking of that match, they really went out of their way to not have Austin and Hogan face off much. That Detroit crowd popped when Hogan pinned Rock in that one.

          Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread

Finally at WM18 in Toronto. It's been fun watching everything leading up to the ppv for the first time since it happened live.

Outside of Rock-Hogan, the entire show didn't feel as big as most WMs. The big 3 matches got 10+ mins, the rest just felt rushed. Even Austin vs Hall got under 10. I wonder if Austin vs Hogan happened if Austin would've still walked out (he didn't leave only because of the Lesnar match, but seems he was frustrated for most of 02).

Don't know if any match can ever top Rock-Hogan for me, but seeing some of the international crowds we've had in the modern era, it's definitely possible to have a huge match like this with as fun a crowd as we had for Rock-Hogan.

Sucks to have Jazz-Lita-Trish not only have to follow that match, they got 6 minutes. One of the things about the modern era that I love/hate is how it has "ruined" women's wrestling for me in all other eras because you realize today how good it could've/should've been long before the modern era.

Jericho-HHH main eventing obviously was a bad choice given we had Rock-Hogan, but when you see how Rock-Hogan ended (Rock and Hogan taking out the NWO and then walking up the ramp together), probably made more sense to have the Undisputed title end the show then have the final 5-10 mins of WM not even be match related.

Never realized we had Hebner as the ref for the main event title match at Wrestlemania in Canada. Small "you screwed Bret" Chants from fans.

This is amazing. The storytelling leading up to the Crow Sting character in particular is worth checking out. Forgotten segments from WCW Saturday Night, etc. And then the evolution of the look. So ****ing cool.

We should just rename this thread for the WWE Vault. Here's today's upload - an unseen segment with Mean Gene interviewing Afa and Kokina (Yokozuna)

They also have a poll for which match they'll upload on Friday. Not sure why they don't just upload all three but I don't control the internet.

                    The choices are
                    • Ric Flair vs. Brad Armstrong: GCW at the Omni, Feb. 26, 1984
                    • Bret Hart vs. Hakushi — Steel Cage dark match: July 25, 1995
                    • Shawn Michaels vs. Brooklyn Brawler: MSG, Nov. 15, 1997

                      There's a fun trivia fact.

HBKs first successful title defense after the screwjob was against the Brooklyn Brawler in NY.

As for Yokozuna, that's obviously the name given to him for the gimmick, but the great kokina sounds like a cool name too.

The WWE Vault channel on YouTube is currently streaming an episode of Shotgun Saturday Night from 1997 that took place at Penn Station in NYC. Peacock clearly only cares about PLEs, so WWE might as well make this the destination for old school wrestling like this.

I didn't expect much from a mid-90s dark match, but even so this was pretty dull. I regret my vote.

                            McIntyre obviously looks different/older.

God I miss those 1980s coked up SS promos. So quickly it just turned into guys coming up with short tag lines, but that first year was genuinely unhinged. Also, the Jimmy Snuka one with him eating a turkey like some kind of savage with The Bushwackers, and Piper singing Dem Bones, wtf man lol.
