    Re: WWE Netflix/Peacock Discussion Thread

I was skimming the monthly email from Peacock talking about what's new and saw they have a WM9 documentary coming up? If WWE's mentioned this on TV I've missed it.

    WrestleMania IX: Becoming a Spectacle

WrestleMania IX: Becoming a Spectacle premieres on April 11, offering an inside look at the iconic event that redefined the world of professional wrestling. Dive into the history of WrestleMania IX, where unforgettable moments, legendary matches, and larger-than-life personalities turned it into a pop culture phenomenon. From its unique Roman-inspired setting to the high stakes of the ring, this documentary explores how WrestleMania IX became a groundbreaking spectacle that continues to influence the WWE today.

I'm learning a lot from the WM 9 documentary... including that the highest ticket price for Wrestlemania in 1993 at Caesars Palace was $250 and the lowest was $25.

Boy oh boy, do we wish those were the ticket prices today. Jim Ross! Good Ol' JR is even in this documentary.

The "controversial" Netflix series debuts this summer. Controversial because it goes behind the scenes like no wrestling doc has ever done before, fully exposing every bit of the behind the scenes process.

Probably gonna be a big skip for me. I have a framework of how things work in WWE, so I don't want all the gory details.

We'll see how much the IWC will love or hate it. Plus, if this has any chance of bringing in casuals (I doubt it).

I think to bring in more casuals they would have to go in the opposite direction and try to protect the business a little more. Give us a bit more smoke and mirrors idk.

A show like this is just going to turn everyone into an armchair booker even more. Like we need that lol. At some point the process of creating wrestling content becomes the actual content. And all we do is debate how good those decisions were, as opposed to how good the shows actual are as entertainment.

I think the way to enjoy wrestling the most in 2025 is to avoid all online decision, ignore all wrestling social media (including the wrestlers themselves), and just watch the shows every week without distraction. Or make the best effort to do those things.

I feel like they're going the opposite direction for that very reason.

Non fans/casuals just look down on it because "you know its fake right", and that's been the knock on "rasslin" for decades.

So they're trying to change that perception and make it more of a "yes, it's a TV show, here's how it's produced and this is how talented our on screen talent are despite that".

Doesn't mean it'll work, or that the current fans won't get turned off a bit by the more behind the curtains stuff, but it's a change from what we're used to.

Welp, I guess Fatu is gonna turn babyface and Jeff Cobb - I thought he was retiring, I guess not (😆😆😆😆) - is taking his place in the Solo led Bloodline.

                    Huge get for WWE, TBH.

They keep saying how this could be the last Cena vs Orton match ever.

I'm starting to think this match could end with something like a dq/double count out.

This event definitely just feels like a basic PLE. Nothing special about it outside of the main event.

That video package for Cena/Orton, as much as the internet hated it at the time seeing so many matches between the two in such a short time, I'll miss not seeing Cena vs Orton ever again. This last match easily could've been a Sunmerslam main event.

The greatest rivalry in WWE history continues!

                          Orton vs the announce table.

Yet again, the announce table wins.

As for the main event, this felt like a classic Cena vs Orton match. Felt like 2009 all over again.

You have 5 producers and officials run down when a ref gets hurt, but no replacement ref? But 5 RKOs!

R Truth coming in to save Cena!?!

Next PLE is MITB! Cena vs Punk perhaps?

Cena takes over the post show press conference and then Truth shows up and Cena hits him with an AA.

We need more of that. Cena needs to destroy Truth on Smackdown and send him to a hospital.

                            Solid show overall.

Cena vs Orton was a million times better than Cena vs Cody. It worked tonight and I enjoyed the match, but they’re not going to be able to overbook every Cena match to hide how much age and time away has caught up to him.

                              That was a fantastic show.

Every match was fantastic and did something good. Four way was awesome. Lyra/Becky was amazing with great storytelling and device use (turnbuckle, teasing use, etc). Gunther McAfee didn't need to happen but since it did it was way better than it had any right to be.

Cena Orton was *way* more satisfying than Cena Cody. Everything that happened was within the confines of the wrestling world, you know? This heel thing is stupid. Cena can still go in the ring. He should have just been a wrestler that came whenever he wanted, no stupid farewell tour and no contrived heel story. Or he could have gone heel without the theatrics because none of that has mattered at all. I thought it would have been good if the 2nd ref that came out was a corrupt ref and revealed to have been sent by The Rock to save him. Would have also been good if Cody cost Cena to help Orton, considering you know Orton is his buddy.

Regarding The Rock portion of this...

As far as I'm concerned, that never happened. Rock and Cena are not aligned, it was just a stupid thing that they did to turn Cena heel.
