    25 years ago today

I never watched this show, but was interesting to see how it all came about. It was all because of Jake's promo earlier in the night, Austin was at a hospital, and when he came back to the arena he was just filled in on what Jake's promo was about and he went out and gave that promo later.

Talk about a perfect storm. If even 1 of the MSG Incident, Austin being in a hospital and Jake cutting that promo never happened, there would be no Austin 3:16.

I think it's just truly the MSG incident, Triple H was slated to win the 1996 King of The Ring and without it, we don't get Austin 3:16. How much changes without the MSG incident happening?

The MSG Incident was THE biggest thing here, but with the MSG Incident still happening but Jake not cutting the promo he did, or Austin not missing part of the night, who knows if Austin 3:16 happens.

And with no MSG Incident, HHH would be the one getting the push, but Austin perhaps ends up being the 1997 KOTR? That Austin feud with Bret I feel like was designed for HHH.

But the MSG Incident definitely has biggest butterfly effect in wrestling history. If it didnt happen, no Austin KOTR in 96, no iconic Austin vs Bret match at WM, who knows if we'd be on the path for the Montreal Screwjob, HBK vs Taker in a casket match probably never happens either meaning HBKs back doesn't get messed up.

All of which I think might have led to WCW winning out in the Monday Night Wars, and Bret still winding up leaving for WCW might have been the nail in the coffin (and the moment WCW forever brags about).

That Bret vs. Austin feud from 96-97 is still my #2 favorite of all time.

10 years since this happening.... damn I can't believe that. The way WWE botched the Summer of Punk, man this could have been something really good. Instead he showed up one week later instead of actually leaving for several months.

After Austin tweeted about this, I want Punk on the Broken Skulls Session with Austin now.

He walked out with the title, they literally just did a WWE title tournament right after that, I think it was Mysterio who won and Cena beat him? And the title they gave them looked like some cheap replica title.

And after all that, he returns right after and goes into that "Kevin Nash ("wtf, thought he was dead, lol") got involved because HHH texted Nash telling him to do so, but it was really Kevin Nash pretending to be HHH who texted Kevin Nash...." stuff

I always remember thinking they ruined it when they changed the focus from Punk vs Vince to.. Punk vs Triple H and Punk vs Johnny Ace. But in retrospect Punk and Triple H had some great promo moments. Plus, Vince didn't want to be on TV anymore, even though he was still really good as a character.

Fitting given the Icons Episode of Lex Luger airs today on Peacock.

July 2001 is probably the best month of the invasion.

Austin turns on WWF, Rock returns, ECW joins the invasion and more.

                        But first

That half hour between them adding ECW to the Invasion and them ****ing it up by making it another McMahon feud was cool.
