    20 years ago:

JBL beat Booker, Benoit, Undertaker, Christian and Hassan in an elimination match to become the first and only ever WWE Smackdown Champion.

That reign lasted only a few minutes but wasn't actually considered a reign because Teddy Long drafted WHC Batista to Smackdown.

For the month of June Smackdown had no world champ as the month kicked off with Cena getting drafted to Raw (which despite what WWEs revisionist history says, to me the moment he got drafted to Raw is the moment I felt that it solidified he'd be THE guy)

11 years ago, they randomly had a Hulk Hogan birthday celebration on Raw.

Was this the first NWO appearance with all 3 of those guys together in WWE since 2002? Other than this moment, WM31, and the HOF, I don't remember many other modern era NWO moments.

God that was really 11 years ago? Smh. Still firmly entrenched in that Vince "sure pal, we'll celebrate the legends, then we'll bury them by making them look weak and helpless to get heat" era. Say what you want about Triple H, his era has been a positive change in that department.

20 years ago, Summerslam 2004 (I prefer Summerslam being mid August. That early August one this year feels weird)

It's a shame the match gets wiped out of history. Although, what happened the next night is an easy moment to overshadow the match.

One of the matches that further put Toronto in to "bizzaroworld" with fans doing the wave during the match.

I forgot this match happened at this show. But another match where you remember the aftermath more than the match.

A sign of the times. Fans hated Edge back then which is what eventually led to him turning in to the rated r superstar.

Had that match happened in modern WWE, fans would be going crazy for Edge, and even Jericho to a lesser extent while hating Batista so much.

On that note, when was the last time we had a show filled with legends? Not that the focus should be on them, but anytime they did those special shows over the years (in the mid-late 00s and the early 2010s) we could count on seeing DX, Hogan, Slaughter, Piper, Duggan and so on.

Wonder what thee modern era equivalent of that would be?

            August 23, 2022 - NXT 2.0
Lights Out Match: Wendy Choo vs Tiffany Stratton

I haven't rewatched it yet but I remember this being a surprisingly good match, especially for NXT 2.0.

A few days late(August 24th) but this would be the only time we see Sting hold the WWE Championship in his hands. Triple H & Stephanie promised Seth Rollins a new statue only for the Authority's plans to be once again foiled by The Icon Sting.

Fitting timing to have this anniversary, but 15 years ago today was the start of NXT S3. The season which everyone seemingly hated at the time and Michael Cole literally wanted to be put out of his misery on tv, but in hindsight that season produced Naomi and AJ so it technically has a higher success rate than any other NXT season (funny enough, S6 would have actually been the best NXT season ever based on the roster they were planning for that season, though obviously just going to NXT the development brand instead of NXT the "reality show" was the best decision ever made).

I remember at the time people thought Maxine might be the biggest star from that group because she had the best mic skills. AJ had been my fave since the start of NXT so at least I picked right.
