    Smackdown Vs. Raw impressions thread

I picked this up at lunch, haven't played yet, but throw impressions here

should be fun, sounds like an improvement over last year, but maybe not as much as we'd want. I doubt it can really suck

I have to wait until tomorrow. Canada never gets games on the same day as the USA.

My bro-n-law should be picking this up today. It looks like the single player mode is meh. I'm all for create-a-belt, create-a-PPV and multiplayer.

Just picked it up. First thing I noticed are the graphics. They are unbelievable! Everyone , and everything looks dead on. Another thing you'll notice right away is how much the game, and matches, "feel" like a WWE event. It actually feels like you are watching a match when you are playing.

The gameplay seems pretty much the same as the last installment, but the inclusion of things like the chop meter, the pre match battles, and the face/heel meter add a lot to the game. Matches have a slower pace as well from past Smackdown games, which is good IMO. I had a very good first match, where I was Randy Orton against Eddie Guererro. Finished him with the Super RKO from the 2nd Turnbuckle also, which has a DAMN cool animation. Be sure to check that out.

I'll give more impressions later when I get back from my brothers to play it.

Me too. That's the one thing that always bugged me a little about the SD series. I liked the slower paced play of No Mercy.

Re: Smackdown Vs. Raw impressions thread

I played season mode a ton tonight and it's a lot of fun...the voice acting isn't great, but I do like it better than just having to read a ton of text. Sure, it's not like sports game commentary, but it's not totally horrible to me at least. JR and the King (I've only done Raw so far) are pretty sketchy in match, nothing useful, but the season mode cutscenes are cool. I hate having to push X after each little segment though (you'll know what I mean)

The control is good, and it looks better than last year. Basically a lot of last year but a little better.

Reminds me how I hate triple threat matches against the CPU, you really have to get lucky to win one, because it's tough to lay one guy out long enough to pin the other, takes a while and you have to avoid getting killed yourself.

The new dirty/clean mode's kinda cool, but using weapons in a no dq match is dirty, but in those triple threats you'd be totally screwed without using weapons.

The stare off, test of strength, and those beginning match things are ok, just give you the edge to start a match.

Chopping and spanking (bra and panties match) is kind of like a golf meter, you have to hit it on the top and then back in a range near the bottom.

Overall it's fun, and i haven't even tried online yet, gotta run a ethernet cable over to the PS2, I had one there but hadn't played it online in forever. I could unplug the one in my xbox, but that's a pain to do over and over.

I guess it's not quite the upgrade you'd like, but it's a lot of fun.
