It's definitely hurting the show. Feels like it's setting to be a fun type of curiosity show, as opposed to an epic spectacle that we will remember for years. Although I'm not sure we were ever going to get that. NJPW has cooled off big time in the past few years.

Re: AEW Dynamite Thread
Me everytime Excalibur speed reads a PPV Match card: BREATHE... BREATHE! The fact they added more matches tonight, you almost feel for him. Yeah the placement of this show is what kills it most. AEW just had Double or Nothing, they have Blood & Guts next Wednesday, the first show after Forbidden Door then they got to build to All Out in September.
There's so much other stuff going on, AEW is trying to worry about their storylines all a while trying to promote this show sprinkling in New Japan talent here and there. Plus as others have said, New Japan isn't as hot as it was a couple years ago so casual fans aren't going to know who most of these New Japan guys are.
This is the problem AEW is running into and it's the problem that killed NXT. Catering to this style of wrestling and hardcore fans doesn't work long-term. AEW needs to focus more on the story rather put on 30 minute matches every week. You need to bring in new fans in order to grow AEW, we hardcore fans will always be there.Comment

Re: AEW Dynamite Thread
That brawl to end Dynamite was so weak lol. I saw punches being pulled and elbows being used. Plus, its hard to get invested into this brawl when we dont know anything about the NJPW guys. As much as it is cool to see Tanahashi and Okada on our American TV screens, we (the casual viewer) dont know what they are about. Seeing Okada was a highlight for sure. Another highlight was that Christian Cage promo. Jesus christ. He tore one on Jungle Boy. Amazing promo here. Why couldn't the WWE let us see this Christian back then? Thats about it for me. Everything else was okay. I get that Tony Khan has a Forbidden Door PPV to promote. Not gonna fault that. Jade Cargill is growing on me too. Her booking is pretty strong. As well as her biceps. Damns.Comment

Re: AEW Dynamite Thread
I’m hoping a combination of getting past Forbidden Door and getting guys off the injured list will help AEW.
Terrible is a strong word, but I’ve noticed that I’m zoning out these past few weeks. It’s cool seeing guys like Okada, Tanahashi, Jay White, Will Ospreay, and Zack Sabre Jr. on my screen. And it’s always a treat when the murder grandpa Minoru Suzuki shows up.
But it’s all the other guys showing up from New Japan that I know absolutely nothing about. Of course a product of that is a lot of the guys who took NJPW to their previous heights are now in AEW. But there are some notable omissions from the card…Naito, The Good Brothers, GoD, Kota Ibushi, Kenta to name a few from NJPW. And of course, injuries have robbed us of CM Punk, Kenny Omega, and Bryan Danielson from this card.
I’ll still be watching, but my expectations have cooled since it was announced with how everything played out.

Re: AEW Dynamite Thread
The New Japan shows in America haven't been memorable since 2019. The NJPW Strong stuff has been mediocre to me.
This Sunday feels like a giant hodgepodge variety show with low stakes. If I buy it's because there's nothing else going on, or I'm afraid I'll miss a big moment like Omega returning. Not sure that's worth $50Comment

AEW Dynamite Thread
Hmm…it’s Excalibur, Taz, and Tony on the call, though JR will be calling the main event.
And nice track for Orange.
Edit: interesting tactic by Lambert, asking for Chuck and Trent’s licensed manager cards from the Michigan Athletic Commission lol

Seems like Excalibur is always more relaxed when JR isn't there. Feels a little more organic.Comment

Only bad thing with the two ring setup…the hard cam is off-center.

Re: AEW Dynamite Thread
I wonder if they are lessening JR’s workload. He called the second half of the PPV. And I guess he’s calling the second half of Dynamite.
